Hi TINC! Great to chat with you! can you tell us a bit about yourself?

Hello! I’m Tinc, and I’m a Singaporean DJ! I’ve been a DJ for almost a decade now and it has been an amazing journey thus far. Even before I ventured into electronic music and DJ-ing, I took an interest in songwriting and music since I was 6! I also had the chance to play in a live band once. These musical experiences made me the person I am today. I couldn’t imagine doing anything else! Without music, life has no meaning.

What is the most challenging aspect of DJing?

When I spin, I truly want to bring joy and happiness to every single person in the room. But, the reality is you can’t always please everyone. Everyone’s got their own musical tastes. It’s also an undeniable fact that, as a DJ, I’ve got to strike a careful balance between fulfilling my clients’ requests, adapting to the live crowd’s reactions, and sticking to my own style as well. It’s a very dynamic process. Thankfully, nine times out of ten, I always end my set feeling happy that most people leave feeling great! It’s one of the greatest reasons why I love my job.

Why did you select Blackpink’s single to remix? What captured your attention about the song?

Apart from wanting to keep things relatable and fun, I am a big advocate of feminism and empowering women. To me, Blackpink embodies a lot of what I myself believe in. They’re a 4-women strong group with emboldening lyrics and lots of attitude. It’s quite refreshing, coming from the K-Pop industry that tends to portray women in a certain way. Plus, the song’s really fun and catchy. So I just really wanted to give a remix a try!

How do you find balance in keeping the original song’s style yet shaping it into a cool remix?

Blackpink fans (BLINK) are very loyal to the group’s sound. And I wanted to do it justice. So, I was listening to the song on repeat for a few days, debating over how I could switch things up while keeping the original feel intact. I decided to go for the sound I enjoy the most – which is bass trap. But at the same time, I kept in all the crucial parts of the song. I’m really happy to see comments coming in from Blackpink fans across the world, telling me they enjoyed my remix! It’s an honour that they felt I did justice to their favourite group with my own vibes added in! I know it means a lot to them, and so, it means a lot to me as well.

What's next for you through 2019?

2019 is gonna be the Year of TINCNation! I was going through a terrible burn out for quite some time, prior to now. I just felt totally drained and unmotivated. But right now, I’m just so excited and feeling totally refreshed! It feels like I can finally share everything I’ve held in for the past 2 years. It wake up every day feeling excited to get started. I’ve got lots of brand-new ideas, motivation, and energy – and I’m ready to blast everything out into the world! I’m challenging myself now and plan to release a new remix every month or so, just to keep focusing on improving myself.

I’m also excited to be touring in Shanghai, Guang Zhou, and Singapore soon! I’m also planning on adding more countries to visit and perform in. My ultimate goal is to focus on self-improvement and going above and beyond my safe zone to redefine myself as a DJ, musician, and creative person.

Most of all, I’m really grateful for the new fans I’ve made – and the old ones I’ve reconnected with. They’ve been extremely supportive and kind, and I feel more connected with them then ever before. 2019 has been great so far – and the rest of the year is going to be blast!

Also, thank you for asking me to do this interview. I’m always grateful when my music helps people connect from all over the world. Hello, LA and the rest of the world! I’ll see you soon!
