Long Island alternative emo band Dog Dilemma delivers an emotionally resonant anthem about heartbreak, self-worth, and learning to let go with “Everything You Wanted.”
Some songs are written to help you hold on. Dog Dilemma’s latest single, “Everything You Wanted,” is about finding the strength to finally let go.
The Long Island alternative emo outfit leans into everything that makes the genre timeless: soaring melodic guitars, emotionally charged vocals, and lyrics that refuse to sugarcoat the realities of heartbreak. But beneath the song’s melancholy lies something far more hopeful. Rather than dwelling on rejection, “Everything You Wanted” explores the difficult realization that love isn’t always mutual and that chasing someone else’s expectations often comes at the expense of your own peace.
That message feels especially relevant in a cultural moment where more people are confronting their mental health, embracing vulnerability, and redefining what self-acceptance looks like. Dog Dilemma taps into those conversations with authenticity rather than cliché, creating a track that resonates long after the final chorus fades.
Formed in 2025 by four friends immersed in Long Island’s local music scene, the band has quickly established itself as a compelling new voice in alternative emo. Following the release of their debut EP, Learning How to Live With Yourself, earlier this year, “Everything You Wanted” continues expanding on themes of healing, identity, and emotional resilience.
As a non-binary-fronted band, Dog Dilemma also brings an important perspective to the genre, writing candidly about mental health, living with AuDHD, and processing grief without allowing those experiences to define them. Instead, they’re transformed into songs that create space for listeners navigating similar emotions.
Their message is perhaps best summed up in one simple line: “Part of learning how to live with yourself is learning how to let go.” On “Everything You Wanted,” Dog Dilemma proves that sometimes moving forward begins with accepting what was never meant to stay.
