BuzzMusic's Exclusive Interview With Artist Mountain Bird!

Can you tell us about your new song “Hiding Underwater”? What emotions did you channel when creating this song?

It's about the state of depression and isolation. About the tension between the shadow and the light. I've been suffering from a depressive state since I was 11 years old, so I wanted to capture the drive that can be born from the darkness.

The music video is extremely captivating! What’s the overall concept?

The concept is the same as the story of the song! To describe the tension between the shadow and the light, and that tension creates a drive and a fight, an endless search for redemption.

What was the filming process like for your music video "Hiding Underwater"?

2 full intensive days of recording. The first day in a cold pool swimming under water filmed by divers! The next day we were around Berlin at different vibey locations until late at night/early in the morning. I was physically drained after the shoot, but I think it was worth it.

How have you overcome and persevered through the dark feelings you had when creating “Hiding Underwater”?

I never have those feelings when I create, that's impossible because when you feel like that you don't want to create, you want to survive. I think if you're like me it's not a matter of overcoming it, it's a matter of learning to cope with it and live with it. One way of coping is to write about it, hence this song. That helps me a lot with understanding my feelings, and gives way to a self analysis that could often be really abstract if you don't speak it out loud. I know i'm not alone so I thought the song was needed.

What do you hope your listeners take away from “Hiding Underwater”?

I hope that the ones that suffer from anxiety and depression (which is a lot of people I’m sorry to say), will feel a little comfort and a sense of that they're not alone in it. The worst feeling when you’re having a rough time is to feel alone, because then you start to isolate yourself from the outside world and feel even more crazy. It's so important to talk about it, to shine light on the shade because then the shade can't exist anymore.

What do you hope to achieve as an artist going forward through the end of 2019?

I want to play more live shows, and also wish that my next singles will be well received, I'm still SO close to that 1M mark on Spotify, so that would be fun if we could reach that. Also I would love to get a film-placement since I write all my music with movie-scenes in my head. We've gotten some tv shoes and tv-series but no film yet! Then just to be able to feel happy and steadily continue to create more music, I'm recording a new EP in September and we also have 3 more singles to release this year so I'm stoked about that!
