“Hopelessly” was centered around a beautiful story, and it was clear how much emotion you poured into it. How do you take your stories and craft them in such a way that they can feel personal to everyone?
I have always had an immense passion for songwriting. I started writing around the age of 10, and now, years later, I have taken every minute to continue honing in on the craft, falling more in love with the art every single day.
One of the most heartwarming aspects of songwriting is that one person’s experience can translate into the experiences of so many different individuals. I absolutely love it when a fan reaches out to share how they relate to the song.
What do you hope that listeners take away from “Hopelessly”? What aspects of “Hopelessly” made you want to release it as a single?
“Hopelessly,” tells the story of a hopeless romantic. You know, you spend a lot of time watching movies and admiring these on-screen, almost flawless relationships. You get this idea of love in your head and start to believe that it's easy - that it might be messy at times, but the fights are worth it for the right person. This idealized version of love leads you to believe that you'll be sitting in a coffee shop, the right person will walk in, and, all of a sudden, you're living in a full-length romance movie of your life. We all know there's no such thing as a perfect relationship, but it sure is fun to picture what it would be like to fall hopelessly in love with that "perfect" person across the room.
How did you decide on your elegant production style for “Hopelessly”?
Almost immediately after writing “Hopelessly”, I knew that I wanted to release the song and portray this story into the world. I sent some ideas of what I wanted the song to sound like to my producer, and he produced this amazing track. Working alongside talented producers to allow the song to truly reach its full potential is such a magical process. I am extremely happy with how the song turned out, and I hope that listeners love it as much as I do!
How does the music you make today compare to the music you grew up singing/listening to?
Growing up, I was always inspired by Taylor Swift’s music. Her lyrics, melodies, and stories aided me in realizing that songwriting was an actual career that a girl could pursue. I vividly remember being back in 2008, listening to Taylor Swift, dreaming that one day I’d be able to share my stories as beautifully and elegantly as she has and continues to do today. I hope that love of storytelling is reflected in my music today!
What has been keeping you inspired in 2020 and what can we expect to see next from you?
I have always found comfort and solace in creating. Music has been a major part of my life for as long as I can remember, and I am so grateful to be able to make music every day.
I am also inspired by my family and friends, and I am so grateful to have such a talented and inspiring group of musicians and songwriters around me, even if it’s virtually! As for what’s next… new music soon!
