Welcome to BuzzMusic Damian Sage! It’s such a pleasure to be chatting with you. You seem to be an artist that puts a substantial amount of thought into your lyrics! Who/what has inspired you to be the artist you are today?
Very kind of you to say, thank you. My influences are many and varied. Musically they can range from artists like Bob Dylan or Tori Amos, to The Doors, The Rolling Stones, Chris Cornell and a wide variety of others, across many genres. Life influences I draw from a lot as well. Whether it be struggles, relationships, or any other things that have an affect on me.
"Drive" seems like a deeply personal track. Is vulnerability something your fans can always expect from your music? Can you tell us more about this particular song?
I feel I’m real if nothing else. I believe you have to be, otherwise people see right through it. My music is where I put it all on the table. Whatever I’m feeling in the moment, that’s what comes out. This song came mostly from a relationship. The first lyric “If you’re gonna steal from me, steal my breath”. I had that in my head for maybe a year before the song came to be. Just waiting for the right place to use it. A lot is about a girl. As far as the title, Drive, I was picturing my brothers car, a 66’ Mustang convertible, driving down the coast.
Congratulations on working with Dark Sark Music and Vicky Hamilton! She's worked with huge names like Guns N Roses, June Carter Cash, and Johnny Cash to name a few. How has the experience been for you so far? What does it feel like to follow in the footsteps of these legends?
Vicky is amazing. As the label head, and as a friend. We have become very close over the past couple of years. It’s an honor for me to work with her. Some of the names you mentioned of her past clients are huge like you said. I love those artists, they are some of my favorites. It’s sort of surreal in a way, a good way.
What can you tell us about your upcoming album? We can't wait to hear more!
The album is basically complete. I don’t have an exact release date yet, but I’ll keep you posted! Look for another single in the next couple of months.
It was great having you here on BuzzMusic! Tell us more about what's next for you artistically? Any shows in the near future to support to album?!
Thank you for having me. We are working on booking several shows right now, I just finished up a showcase in NYC for the label. It was the Dark Spark Music East Coast launch party. It was awesome. Full house, and as a Native New Yorker I always love going back, especially to perform. Look for several LA and San Diego shows coming up soon. The UK is on the horizon as well.
