Hilary Lankford Talks Buenos Aires Argentina Tour, New Music & More!

Hello Hilary, and welcome back to BuzzMusic! Thank you for taking the time to catch up with us. 2020 is gearing up to be a big year from you! Tell us, what is new from you? Thank you for reaching out. 2020 is gearing up to be a big year! I am currently out in Buenos Aires, Argentina performing until the end of February and then, I will be heading to the US to continue touring from March until May, stopping at six cities across the US for performances.

Congratulations on your tour in Buenos Aires Argentina! How has that experience been for you? The experience has been amazing and completely unforgettable. I am growing tremendously as an artist, writing a lot and meeting people every week that change the way that I see my art. It has been wonderful to be in a city with so many musicians and artists and it has been a pleasure to be in a town with so much culture for this long. The audiences are super attentive and are always sure to give positive feedback. The city is beautiful, everyone is nice and I am so happy to be in a place where it is Summer in January. I have always wanted to come here and I am living a dream right now.

What would you say is your favorite part about performing live? What is a concert like from you, Hilary?

My favorite part about performing live is having the opportunity for self-expression and storytelling in a way and having others experience that right along with me. It is very freeing to be able to let people inside of my mind and heart and have them respond with personal stories of people or experiences that they were reminded of. A concert with me is very personal. There’s laughter, sometimes tears and always a closeness. My songs are kind of like personal letters and I want the audience to feel that with me. I perform a’cappella songs and some songs with soft guitar.

We love your song 'Come Back To California’ off of your EP 'Jade'.  Can you tell us the meaning behind the song? Does California own a special place in your heart? Thank you. It is one of my favorites. This song stemmed from a lifelong relationship with a close family member that moved out of state and we drifted apart. I always wanted them to move back, but now it has a bit of a different feeling, especially since I am not in California singing the song live. Southern California is where I was born and where I lived all my life. It’s where all my family lives and where you can go to the mountains, desert and beach in the same day. It will always have a special place in my heart.

Thank you for talking with us Hilary, it's always a pleasure! We know you're busy working on new music! What can we expect to hear next from you? Absolutely. Thank you for taking the time out for the interview. Well, I am currently working on finishing up writing an album that will be out this summer. It is very personal and I am looking forward to recording it and performing the songs live. Also, I will be releasing a cover of Where Have All the Flowers Gone by Pete Seeger in February.
