Welcome to BuzzMusic, Ina Bravo! Congratulations on the release of your single and music video for, “Talk To Me.” What was the inspiration behind this captivating single that you released?
Hi BuzzMusic! Thank you so much! I wrote, "Talk To Me" right around when quarantine happened. Being isolated at home in slacks & baggy sweaters made me reminisce the nights we were able to go out & meet people, dance our butts off, feel sexy! So when A-Dubb sent me that hot bass-driven beat, "Talk To Me" basically wrote itself, haha!
The music video for, “Talk To Me,” was extremely well executed and entertaining to watch! Was your vision captured just the way you wanted it? What was it like filming the scene in the rain?
Thank you! I'm really proud of it, too. When I first talked to Zane (The director), I brought up a concept that I hadn't refined yet. (Especially in these times where things are really hard to execute) so Zane flipped it and came up with this treatment, which I instantly fell in love with. On shoot-day, he made sure everything was perfect and it came out amazing!
For the rain scene, I had only rehearsed the choreography (by Marque) once the day before. When I left rehearsal, I kept going over it in my head until the scene. When I arrived at the location the floor was 10x more slippery than I already thought it was gonna be, so I did fall a couple of times, haha. But it was so rewarding to watch it in the end!
As an artist, everyone has a different approach to the creative process. What goes into yours?
I usually don't even write it down first. I wanna play with melodies & cadence first. I wanna hear what vowels sound good and where. I have my own setup at home, so I always record a max of 3 tracks of melodies, then take a break. Go eat or for a run or something. When I come back, if those melodies stick, the rest of the song is already written in my head.
I love this process because it allows me to keep enjoying what I do. I could lock myself away, too. And not being seen by society until the album is done, haha. But being a songwriter who writes from feelings and emotions, I have to handle them with care & keep my well-being with the volume of songs I write daily.
We hear that you have a debut album in the works! What are you able to tell us about the creation?
I do! I'm super excited about it because I get to show the world what INA wants! It'll be released soon, 2021! The songs will be about my growth as a woman, feeling sexy, confident, and will have some stories I've never told before that will hopefully inspire young girls to feel invincible regardless of their trials!
2020 has been a very challenging year for everyone. What has been keeping you inspired to create music? What advice can you give another artist who's finding it difficult to do so?
Man, where do I start.. even though it's been a devastating year, now more than ever the world needs us artists to tell, not only our stories but also the ones for those that can't. If you think too hard, let it go. Try again tomorrow. And the next day. And the next. What keeps me inspired is the NEED for telling stories. My heart is desperate to write it all out. Because this is my outlet, not my way in.
