Jack Ducker Is Going Strong With His Solo Debut As He Releases His Second Studio Single, “My Love”

Dousing listeners in a big sound, the multifaceted Jack Ducker wows his audience yet again with his nostalgic artistry. The artist, writer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist from Kingston, London, takes influence from indie and folk alongside undertones of funk, psychedelia, and rock, allowing his music to nod to the 70s with a contemporary twist.

Making the transition from producer to artist, Jack Ducker brings forth his second single from his debut EP, “My Love.” Being the title track to grace this project, the self-produced, written, recorded, mixed, and mastered masterpiece takes us into a brilliant expression of Jack Ducker as a musical architect.

Welcome to BuzzMusic, Jack Ducker. We’re overjoyed to have you here chatting about your latest release, “My Love.” Having worked in the industry producing and writing for other artists for the past several years, how does it feel to be releasing music as a solo artist?

Thank you so much for having me; it’s an honor to be here on BuzzMusic. Releasing music can be quite daunting; being so involved from start to finish makes it quite hard to let go sometimes! It’s getting a little easier now I’ve wrapped my head around it, but I’m not sure it will ever be taken for granted. Writing for other artists has its difficulties too, but I often feel I’m just aiding another’s creative process/story. Releasing your material means you are the judge, the jury, and the executioner, so it can all be a bit much sometimes.

You have a knack for bringing such comforting ease through your music. In the single “My Love,” what inspired this energy and the overall origin of the song?

I think of the album as being quite relatable, talking about everyday encounters in a way that hopefully most people can connect to. “My Love” is an extension of this, a fun tongue and cheek take on a mistimed romance. Although we’d like to think love is simple, like in the movies, most of us agree it’s not always like that!

Being the second single to come from your forthcoming EP, what inspired you to release it at this point in time? Is there a method for the rollout?

The order I’m releasing is more based on the order in which I like to enjoy the EP. I happen to think it’s the best way for the listener to enjoy it, too, so hey, let’s hope they don’t press shuffle!

How do you allow your musical influences of White Denim, Big Thief, The Black Keys and Bleachers, Sam Fender, and Palo Nutini to speak into your sound? Did it take you a while to establish this route of your artistry?

The recording, mixing, and mastering process can influence one sound almost as much as the songwriting itself. So not only am I influenced by the message and style of songwriting but also by the sonic sphere created by each artist. It’s definitely taken some time to master getting things to sound how I want them, I’m always learning, but I strive to achieve a raw organic approach to the writing and recording process, just like my influences.

What does the entire concept of 'Jack Ducker,' the EP, mean to you?

This EP is more of a grouping of relatable observations and experiences than a concept. The concept will become more prominent when I release my full-length album. But as of now, this EP is a fun collection of songs I wanted to put out there to give the listener a feel of what I’m about.
