Jack Rush Rewrites the Rules of Love on “Stranger In My Mind”

Falling in love is usually written as discovery. On “Stranger In My Mind,” Swiss-based recording artist Jack Rush is more interested in what happens when discovery starts to feel like an identity crisis.

Released September 3 via Rattler Records, the dreamy indie-rock single examines the subtle psychological shift that happens when another person becomes significant enough to change the way you understand yourself. Rather than chasing the obvious highs of romance, Rush focuses on the stranger experience of realizing you no longer think, react, or move through life quite like the person you were before.

Produced by Neihardt (Davide Joerg), “Stranger In My Mind” gives that internal disruption an intentionally relaxed exterior. Jangly guitars, warm analog textures, and an unhurried mid-tempo groove create an atmosphere that feels intimate and slightly hazy, allowing Rush’s writing to remain at the center.

The song’s defining idea arrives through its refrain, “I’m a stranger in my mind,” turning romantic transformation into something more complicated than simple infatuation. Rush describes logic losing its authority, familiar emotional boundaries beginning to move, and an unexpected version of himself emerging in their place. What makes the track resonate is that he never treats this change as entirely frightening or entirely comforting.
