Jai Fears Has An Anthem For Every “Gemini”

Born in Detroit, Michigan, Jai Fears established her passion for music at a young age. The talented singer/songwriter grew up listening to her mother's R&B records, unknowingly predetermining Jai's future dancing gigs with the legendary Aretha Franklin and Charlie Wilson. When Jai was 14, she competed in a national talent competition in Los Angeles. After successfully taking the win, Jai had truly found her passion and her and her mother moved to Los Angeles permanently soon after.

“Gemini” is a funky and soulful track by Jai Fears. With old school motown vibes mixed with a contemporary funk vibe, “Gemini” is a refreshing hit! Jai Fears has an alluring voice, from her bouncing verses to her smooth hook, “Gemini” will have you dancing along to the beat. This song is all about being a confident and fierce “Gemini”. The wild and sporadic tendencies that come with being a “Gemini” is something that Jai Fears is proud to show off. So many listeners will be able to relate to this good time, high energy track. We love Jai Fears unique and authentic sound and we can’t wait to see what she delivers next! Jai is currently recording and writing music for her anticipated EP of the same name,‘’Gemini’’.

Hi Jai! Can you start by telling our readers more about yourself and your upbringing into music?

I was born and raised in Detroit, MI. I sang in the church choir growing up. I’ve always wanted to sing but didn’t know I could actually be a singer.I honestly thought only certain people could be singers. I have plenty of home videos from when I was growing up dancing and singing in the basement, but didn’t know I could actually pursue a career.  I moved to LA in the 9th grade and started out in the music industry as a dancer and actor. My first professional gig as a dancer was dancing background for singer Aaron Carter and My first professional acting gig was 2 lines in the movie The Wood by Paramount pictures.

We love the track “Gemini”! Can you talk more about the meaning of the lyrics in this song? What’s your favorite part?

Gemini lyrics are about me who raised me where I grew up and me loving and accepting my 2 personalities that make me who I am. It’s also a anthem for all Gemini’s to be proud and love ourselves because our sign really doesn’t have the best reputation to be honest. I hardly ever get a good reaction when I tell someone I’m a Gemini, so I made this song to have something specifically for us.

Who are you musical influences? Why?

I have a few but my main influences are Janet Jackson Bruno Mars and Slum Village. I’m very sexual and sensual with my music, but I’m also upbeat playful and fun. Like I have songs that sound like Anytime Anyplace and Perm (by Bruno) on the same project.

What’s your writing process like?

I have 2 ways (No Gemini punt intended lol) if the track is already made I either listen to it in the car and start humming what the song is saying to me or sit at home with a glass of Champagne and listen until I hear what the song is saying to me. Then start writing things down. It doesn’t always have to be in order either. I can start with hook, bridge anything. Whatever I hear first.

When you’re not making music, what do you do?

It’s either 3 things with me, dancing background for the legendary Charlie Wilson (I’ve been his dancer for 14 years now) serving sushi at a restaurant here in Michigan, or chilling at home on one of my very few far and in between off days.
