Welcome to BuzzMusic, Jordan Khalaf! We loved "Dancing In the Moonlight." Could you take us through your creative process for this song?

"Dancing In the Moonlight" was a song that I wrote pretty quickly. As a general rule, I try not to force songs too much and let songs write themselves in a way, meaning I don't go into a writing session for a song with any preconceived notion of what I'm writing about. With this song, the real challenge was capturing and balancing all of these competing ideas that come with this idea of first love and falling in love repeatedly. The most apt description I can think of for that is that it's like staring at the night sky as a kid; there's this fascination with the unknown, yet there's this vibrant simplicity filled with so much unbridled energy. Recognizing that and trying to capture the essence of that musically and lyrically is what guided the song.

What inspired you to first get into music, and what inspires you to create music today?

Music has been a massive part of my life for as long as I can remember. I've been writing music since I was young (those songs are the work of a little kid), but I've always just loved stories. Reading stories, telling stories, experiencing levels. Life is just this vast story full of a myriad of experiences, and to be able to capture those is such a beautiful thing to me.

What does music mean to you?

Music is indeed an integral part of who I am and my identity. It's the most effective form of communicating everything and anything. It's how I process the world and life and emotions.: and that's relatable to many people. Music transcends language in a lot of ways. It's why we have playlists for when we're sad, playlists for joy, or playlists for road trips. It's the backdrop to some of our greatest and worst memories. Music is everywhere, and I'm genuinely so privileged and grateful that I can contribute to that, even a little bit.

How would you describe your music to someone who hasn't heard it before, and what do you want listeners to feel when they listen?

My music is nostalgic, relatable, and authentic. Stylistically, how we approach production and how I write is reminiscent of many late 90s/early 2000s pop-rock, which evokes nostalgia in people. In terms of content, I write in a way that isn't isolating to any one group and that anyone can resonate with, no matter what stage they are in their life. I write from the heart, and I write honestly, but I also strongly believe in this idea of "art for art's sake." It's not up to me to decide how people interpret one of my songs; I hope it resonates with people in their ways!

What's next for Jordan Khalaf? Can we expect to hear more new music soon, and is there anything you want to say to your fans?

I should have more music coming out soon! The plan is to release another single and drop the full EP sometime next year. I'm also getting more into writing and producing for other people! I'm always writing and probably have albums of unreleased material in my notes app, and that won't ever stop. To anyone who's been gracious enough to listen to my music or is planning on listening to it, honestly, I appreciate you and am so immensely grateful for supporting me! Music is a challenging career, and having that love and support helps me be able to do what I love. So thank you!
