New Artist On The Lookout: Premiere of Lou Ella’s Debut Single “Summer Of Love”

Based in California, Lou Ella has been performing music all around Los Angeles California, building a fan base and solid foundation for her career. She’s been writing music ever since her teen years and her style is a reflective of her cultural background mixed with North African and European origins. Lou Ella has leaned into a chill pop and Soul vibe that highlights her impressive vocals and lyrics.

Lou Ella released her first debut song titled “Summer Of Love”. The style of her song and the EP sit at the crossroads of artists like Lana Del Rey, Sade with a chilled pop vibe leaning on a more soulful foundation. "Summer of Love" is piano driven with a strong bass, percussions, and old school backups to transport the listener on a special journey. “Summer Of Love” is a song about a lost love, explored in a more sensory way. The memories of those small moments that define summer flings. Lou Ella’s voice in “Summer of Love” is reliably solid and emotionally rich. She has a highly classic timeless vibe to the strong vocal tone. The voice moves you in a symphonic manner with its passionate delivery and operatic substance. The beat in "Summer Of Love" is percussion-soaked with soulful components fused inside. It reminds me significantly of the beats that used to serve as a foundation for many of Sade’s hits. Lou Ella is no doubt in my mind an compelling artist who doesn't shy away from being gravitating and different. “Summer Of Love” had so many unpredictable moments of poise and seduction while romanticizing the listeners with its poetic lyrics. With a unique vocal and writing style, Lou Ella is a newcomer to watch.

Hi Lou! It's great to chat with you! Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your background in music?

I grew up in a musical family, my dad plays the guitar and writes songs, so he would play and sing a lot. My mother listened to her cds all day it ranged from Barry White, Keziah Jones, Buena Vista Social Club to Carly Simon and Celine Dion. Quite a musical journey. I studied piano as a kid and went to the Russian Conservatory in Paris for ten years. I always loved to sing, it made me so happy.

Love the new single! What inspired you to write “Summer of Love”?

Thank you! I was inspired to write Summer of Love after watching the movie " My King" one night (french movie starring Vincent Cassel, Emmanuelle Bercot) . It’s a slow build, sweet song that fundamentally talks about my first toxic co-dependent relationship before it became too toxic, that small window of magic before things get too real. It is piano driven with a strong bass, percussions, and old school backups to transport the listener on a special journey.

Knowing you’ve been compared to the likes of Lana Del Rey and Sade, would you say they impacted your music style in any way? If so what are some of your favorites by each artist that have helped shape your sound and career?

I’m a huge fan of both artists. I love Lana del Rey’s writing and her ability to take you on a beautiful journey in her unique world. I have a lot of respect for her and love the 'classics', Blue Jeans, Video Games, Young and Beautiful.. Sade’s sweet soulful vocals and chill songs always gave me comfort, I love her vocal melodies and the arrangements of her songs. Her lyrics are very powerful which I always gravitate towards. I love Soldier of Love, No Ordinary Love, Your Love is King ...

What is the meaning behind "Summer of Love"? What are you hoping your fans will take away from the song?

The song is about a lost love and explores the memories of those small moments that define summer flings. I really hope that it will bring people back to that place, that feeling.

What's next for you through 2019?

I’m going to be releasing a lot of music in 2019, playing shows in Los Angeles, planning a show in NYC and applying to a bunch of festivals around the world.
