Hi Sarah! Congratulations on the single “I’m Feeling Good”! What can you tell us about this song? What prompted you to write it?
Hey thank you! “I’m Feeling Good” is a fun, energetic song with lyrics that are in contrast to its upbeat sound. I wrote this song during a time when my life was going well – and when my life is going well, I get nervous that I’ll mess it up. The main themes of this song are understanding self-sabotage and self-worth, and allowing yourself to feel good, even if that means faking it until you make it.
What do you think is the most stand-out lyric in “I’m Feeling Good”?
I think the lyrics in the bridge will stand out most to listeners. That is the part of the song where I have the self-realization that I don’t need to mess up a good thing: “But then it’s fine, I remember why I do this to myself ‘cause I don’t think I deserve more happiness but that is just a myth.”
What first inspired you to start creating original music?
Ever since I was a kid, I loved writing stories and poems. I started combining that with my passion for music and turned my poems into songs. Writing out what you feel is a great way to cope and get your thoughts out of your head.
What are some of the key values you aim to represent with your music?
Telling a story through music that others can relate to is very important to me. I write songs about mental health, relationships, and navigating through life. I want my listeners to understand self-worth, growth, love, and loving themselves.
What can we expect from you going through to the end of 2019?!
My music career is just picking up and I have no plans of slowing down any time soon! You can expect my debut EP to release in the fall/early winter of 2019. Until then, I will slowly release some singles leading up to the full EP. I also keep up with posting short covers with my ukulele, and you can see these posts on my Instagram “@sarahdixon_”. 2019 will be wrapping up with a lot of music and videos so I invite you all to follow me on this journey!
