POSEY Put Her Heart On Display In Brand New Track “Whatever Helps U Sleep At Night”

Bianca Posey, better known by her professional name POSEY, is an up and coming singer/songwriter and gifted multi-instrumentalist. She had a natural talent for music since she was young. Before diving into her professional music career as the lead guitarist for indie electro pop band BEGINNERS, Biana learned to play classical piano at age 5, learned to play guitar at age 10, and was playing bass by 15. By 19 years old, POSEY tried her hand at music production and was, of course, a natural. She attended ICON Collective Music Production School, where she graduated in 2017. Bianca now writes, produces, sings and mixes all of her own songs.

“Whatever Helps U Sleep At Night” is a hauntingly catchy pop track laced with electronic, rock and urban sound arrangements. POSEY pours her heart and soul into her lyricism and production quality and it’s so evident throughout “Whatever Helps U Sleep At Night”. The undertones of funky guitar provide a refreshing twist to the indie-pop track. POSEY has established her craft from the ground up and she fully showcases her multiple skills in “Whatever Helps U Sleep At Night”. The lyrics tell a story of someone telling lies in order to cope with reality. I love the vulnerability and innocence in POSEY’s voice, her tone is somewhat soft but it comes off as the perfect dueling opposite to the hard hitting sonics. Overall I recommend you check out this track and stay connected with POSEY to see what she delivers next!

Hi Bianca! Thanks for chatting with us! Can you tell us more about your upbringing and what made you so musically inclined?

Hey! Well to start things off I grew up in Orange County, CA and have been playing music ever since I can remember. My mom put me in classical piano lessons around age 5 and then around age 10 I had this like undying passion to learn how to play guitar so I started teaching myself from Youtube videos and stuff and was instantly hooked. It was like this little escape I felt like I had from the outside world where I could be as open and vulnerable with myself as possible and nobody could take that away from me. As the years went on, I taught myself bass and drums and it was the most fun I had ever had, but also I didn’t know a ton of people to play with at the time and no one really wanted to play the kind of music I wanted to play. I was in a bunch of different bands growing up, ranging from punk to folk to rock but none of them were really my vibe. That’s pretty much how I got into producing. I wanted to be able to put all of my ideas together instead of taking directions from someone else.

Who are your musical influences? How do you pull inspiration from them?

It’s kind of funny because my absolute favorite band has been No Doubt since I was like 8, but I don’t really make the same kind of music as them at all. Gwen Stefani is the baddest bitch out there and she influenced me a ton growing up. My parents got me super into music from the 60s and 70s when I was a kid like The Doors, Jimi Hendrix, and Fleetwood Mac. I also absolutely love Amy Winehouse and Florence + the Machine- stuff that really makes you feel. At this point pretty much any genre of music can influence me. Doesn’t matter who its by or what type it is, if it makes me feel something then that artist was successful in whatever they were trying to portray. A good song is a good song, ya know?

What is the meaning behind the lyrics in “Whatever Helps U Sleep At Night”? What do you want your listeners to take away from this song?

This song means a lot to me. I wrote it about my ex girlfriend after we broke up last year. It was one of the most painful breakups I’ve ever gone through. We had a super passionate relationship and when it was good, it was so good it was almost too good to be true but when it was bad, it was a nightmare. Towards the end of the relationship we were both in different stages of our lives and I think that caused a lot of tension and led us to get in really stupid arguments and I felt like no matter what, somehow everything always ended up being my fault. I wrote this song about how she would rather walk away from everything with her pride still in tact and act like she’s fine than admit she ever did anything wrong. Looking back, I would’ve done a million things differently but ya live and ya learn, right? Hindsight really is 20/20. I’m hoping this song will be relatable to a lot of people who have gone through the same thing.

Are you still making music with the group BEGINNERS?

Hell yeah!! We’re playing UMS festival in Denver at the end of the month. Me and the lead singer Sam Barbera have been writing a lot together so expect a bunch of new music coming out from us soon too.

What's next for you POSEY?

I’ve been working really hard on a ton of new material over the past few years and I’m getting ready to finally start releasing it all so you’ll be hearing a lot more from me very soon. Also I’ll be playing a show at Echo Park Rising in LA in August!
