Rashaann Reminds Us to Appreciate Life With “Pray for This”

From Harlem, New York, Rashaann is a 24-year-old rapper, songwriter, producer, and screenwriter who now creates his music from Atlanta, Georgia. He discovered his passion for music at a young age because his parents constantly exposed him to the world of music and entertainment. Rashaann began his career with a debut mixtape called “No Previews” in 2018, and has recently begun to release singles from his debut album “Same Dreams.”

His single “Pray for This” has been released from this album and is a taste for fans to see what they can expect for the rest of the songs. In the album, Rashaann often works with other artists to bring a unique sound to each of his singles. In his recent release “Pray for This,” he collaborates with vocalist Meraki Anoir who gives the song a soulful taste. Rashaann’s “Pray for This” mixes the best of multiple genres with its blues piano background and R&B beat. Both Meraki and Rashaann complement each other vocally; her voice is silky and angelic, while he is passionate and straight to the point. He raps with a deliberate intensity in order to get his message across to the listener. Rashaann s lyrics bring attention to the great divide among socioeconomic statuses in the world. He speaks to his hard work allowing him to rise from his past, while others were simply born into a life where everything is handed to him. The lyrics of “Pray for This” compare “first world problems” to real struggles that some people have no choice but to endure; like not having clean water. With “Pray for This,” Rashaann is giving fans a catchy R&B song with an important message; wherever you are in life – don’t take your blessings for granted.

Welcome to BuzzMusic Rashaann! You brought tasteful amounts of soul and blues into the R&B world with “Pray for This.” Can you tell us how you draw from other genres and inspirations to create the unique sound of this song?

Thank you for the opportunity! The song was produced by one of my best friends Poetic Junior and when I first heard the beat, I instantly knew it would have the ability connect with all types of listeners due to its joyful and celebratory sound. I wanted something that people could easily remember and easily sing along to.

“Pray for This” reminds us that many people pray for things that other people take for granted. Can you elaborate on the important message behind your lyrics?

While I wanted to make sure I connected people sonically with the sound of the song, I also wanted to speak about something that would connect with people emotionally. I know that many people can relate to wanting something so badly, finally achieving it, and being extremely grateful, no matter how big or how small it is. On the other hand, we know there are people that may take these things for granted when they obtain them, and sometimes we might even do it. I know there have been many things in my life that I’ve taken for granted.

You have named multiple artistic inspirations from a variety of genres including Kendrick Lamar, Stevie Wonder, Adele, The Beach Boys, and Amy Winehouse. How do artists like this inspire your musical style?

Artists like these prove that music has the power to transcend generations, cultures, etc. That is the same impact on the world that I want to have with my music and be the soundtrack to the everyday lives of millions. They inspire me to be risk-takers with my art.

You often collaborate with other artists who bring unique styles to your music. Can you describe your collaboration with Meraki Anoir in your song “Pray for This?”

I met Meraki Anoir in college at a pop-up show she was performing at on campus. I really enjoyed her set and her voice and immediately knew that I would look forward to collaborating with her in the future. At the time, I didn’t have any specific ideas to work on, but months later, as soon as I decided I wanted a singer on “Pray for This”, she was the first person that came to mind. She’s very easy to work with, catches on to ideas really quickly. Everyone around me, including myself, felt that her voice was a perfect fit for the song. I look forward to working with her more in the future.

What can we expect to see next from you?

Since 2020 began, I’ve been releasing a new single every week. Unfortunately, COVID-19 slowed the plans down a bit, so I’ve only released 6 so far. But I plan to release just a few more songs in the near future. Also, I will be releasing a music video for the second single to follow up “Pray for This” on my debut project, No Previews.
