3409 is a 4-piece collective from Toronto, Canada that refuse to conform to one genre, but instead authentically experiment in all sound classes. 3409 have predicated themselves on sonic innovation while harnessing the more traditional aspects of songwriting they’ve grown to love. Bent on flipping the convention of a traditional band on its head, 3409 is comprised of two producers and two vocalists who’ve built their craft around honesty, hard work, and loyalty. With their debut single “Company” out now, 3409 are now preparing themselves for their next single, produced with Dan Kurtz (Dragonette, The New Deal). The boys are eager to continue exploring the intricacies of the millennial mind with their genre-bending sound.

3409’s musical debut, “Company” is a summertime demo that delves into the difficulties of casual dating while proving to be a culmination of their roots. The fusion of diverse musical backgrounds and knowledge is evident through the free flowing intricacies of “Company”. A a more high energy pop vibe, “Company” is layered with rhythmic texture and infectious melodies to make you vibe along. 3409 includes unique and echoing vocals, groovy beats, and a short and sweet rap verse to keep the listener interested. His bars are flawless and smooth as he recites a witty verse while remaining relevant. 3409 is an impressive collective with a refreshing and explosive sound. We love what we’re hearing so far and can’t wait to see what they bring to the table next!

Hello and welcome to BuzzMusic! Can you start by introducing yourselves? How did 3409 come to fruition?

We’re 3409 and we’re a 4-piece band out of Toronto, Ontario. Our group consists of two producers (Danny Del and Izzy) and two vocalists (Dante and Ro). We started making music together under the impression that our two producers were going to help launch each vocalist as separate identities but quickly realized that much of our passion for music came out of collaboration and learning how to communicate with others. It wasn’t long before the four of us started spending 12 hours a day writing together, trying to figure out how to one up our last set of songs. It was this drive and ambition that caused Dan Kurtz (Dragonette, The New Deal) to take an interest in helping us see past our individual selves in order to create something fun and unique, thus 3409 was born.

Can you talk a bit about the creation process for you debut single “Company”? What inspired it?

“Company” was a bit of an oddball in the sense that it was driven primarily by our two producers. Del and Izzy were both listening to Kaytranada and wanted to create a tune that had a memorable melody with a groovy summertime bounce. It took them about 30 minutes to finish writing the instrumental track, starting with the main chord progression and percussive tracks while ending with the vocal chops. On the other hand, Dante and Ro both struggled with their parts as neither of them listened to dance music before this song, leading to its unorthodox structure. After seeing the vibe created from this beat firsthand through Izzy’s friends, Dante and Ro were both motivated to lay something down that fit with their personal styles without taking away from the style’s energy. Sometimes it takes personal experiences to relate to something new, both in life and in music; for them, this was “Company”.

How does being based in Toronto influence your sound?

In its own way, Toronto has influenced everything about our sound. For starters, it’s one of the most diverse cities in the world, culturally speaking, which has a huge impact on the music created within the city. Even amongst the four of us we have a South African, Puerto Rican, Carribean-Italian, and an American-Nigerian; half of us are also Jewish meaning we’re 100% minorities. Just like our city, we didn’t want our differences, both culturally and musically, to get lost in translation. We’re in love with the eclectic vibrance and use it as fuel for our songs. Toronto is also a hotbed for hip-hop music making it really easy to mix and match styles since everyone listens to everything giving us the leeway we need to experiment.

What is something you’d like your fans to know about your collective 3409?

We’re all about being genuine and transparent. We care more about real connections and figuring out how to relate with everyone we meet. One thing we’ve learned is that even through all of our differences we share similar feelings and go through similar experiences. It doesn’t matter what you look like or where you come from, if you’re honest and know yourself it isn’t difficult finding people who support you through and through.Oh and ya, we’re a boy band, and yes we’re still gunnin’ for ya girl.

What’s next for 3409?

We’re releasing our next single, “Crunch Time”, on August 29 through all streaming platforms. We’re really excited about this one because it’s got a little bit of everything; live instrumentation, more hooks, and a music video shot by our good friend Jimmy Vi. After that we’ll be releasing a few more singles before the end of the year. We’ve been working hard preparing for live shows, so definitely keep your eyes out for that 3409 set!
