Hailing from Bristol, Tennessee, Ria Marie has an undeniable passion for creating music. It's embeded into her DNA. Growing up listening to soul and pop music icons like Whitney Houston, Christina Aguilera, and Jennifer Hudson, it’s no surprise that Ria Marie’s vocals are buttery-smooth. Ria brings a smoky blend of modern R&B with timeless, jazzy undertones to the table to create a soundscape that involves hard-hitting beats anchored by infectious melodies.
A completely captivating performer both on and off the stage, Ria Marie has a contagious energy that draws audiences from all walks of life. Ria’s brand new single “Better” is a fiery anthem for anyone who’s ever been in a toxic relationship. The lyrics hit with meaning and impact, encouraging listeners who are in similar situations that it’s okay to move on and it’s okay to want better for yourself. The groove is hypnotic. Its consistency and warmth weaves around you as you listen. The vocals are equally entrancing, but in a whole different way. “Better” has beautiful, powerful and memorable pop/R&B writing, but with a definite edge of refreshing perspective and poetry. We look forward to hearing more from Ria Marie!

Hey Ria Marie! Welcome to BuzzMusic! We love your original sound! How long have you been involved in the music industry? How did you get first started?
Hey there, thanks so much! I've been involved in the industry ever since I was a little kid. My mom had a career as a singer-songwriter in the industry for a long time until she decided to become a voice teacher. I'm proud to have her as mine to this day and she's taught me so much about my own voice. Growing up around music, it just gets into your blood: my mom's a voice teacher and my uncle is a film director, so I did my first music video at 6 to a cover of "Reflections" by Christina Aguilera, to give you an idea of what I'm talking about - haha. I've been singing my whole life but it wasn't until a few years ago that I started writing and developing as an artist. Jared and Simon, two amazing producers from the UK, came across my Instagram covers and we started working together online, which has really inspired me to tap into my artistry. You can find out more about my story in my bio here.
We love your song “Better”! It seems deeply personal and uplifting. What did you hope to achieve with this release?
This song has been such a source of strength for me during a tough period in my life. Lyrically, it's helped me close a chapter and has made me appreciate my circle of supportive friends even more. "Better" has taught me that it's ok to let go, have hope and know that you deserve to never settle in a relationship - or in life! I hope others feel that same empowerment I feel when they hear this.
We also checked out your debut release “Honey”! It really highlights your versatility as an artist. Will you be releasing a track that really fuses these two sides of your artistry together?
Thank you so much! For me creatively, I don't really see genre when I'm making music, you know, whatever comes out, comes out. I don't really put myself in a box in that sense. It's really fun for me to be able to showcase not only my R&B and soul influences but also my jazz influences and my appreciation for classical music.
How would you say your music now compares to the music you curated when you first started out in the music industry?
I think it's safe to say that every new artist starting out is just trying to find their own sound and I feel like I'm continuing to develop mine, which is really exciting.
We really appreciate you taking the time to chat with us! What can you tell us about the project your working on for 2020?
Thank you for having me. I'm really looking forward to next year. In February, I'll be going to London to finally meet and work with the producers I've been collaborating with for the last couple of years. And you'll definitely be hearing new music from me in 2020 and that's all I can say, for now, so please stay tuned. :)
