Royal Chant Bristles At Hypocrisy On Their Tongue-In-Cheek New Release “Blunt Force Drama”

Sometimes, the irony is almost palpable.

For over 15 years, Australian indie rock outfit Royal Chant has been a mainstay in the music scene, with a prolific output of 9 albums since their formation in 2009.

Led by founder and principal songwriter Mark Spence, the band has impressively stayed true to its roots and artistic vision, even through numerous personnel changes and rebirths.

As this electrifying band continues to gear up for the release of its upcoming 10th studio album, “Be Your Own Boss,” expect them to come with the heat on every release.

Drawing inspiration from a diverse array of influences, including Bob Dylan, Lou Reed, and Shane MacGowan, Royal Chant’s music is a fusion of gritty rock, heartfelt melodies, and overdriven kick, all blended with a blue-collar work ethic and a touch of politeness.

Currently comprised of Mark Spence (guitar and vocals), Wade Mobbs (drums), and James Carthew (guitar, multi-instrumentalist), Royal Chant have impressively consistently found ways to evolve and keep their sound fresh.

Although each of their releases has that distinct Royal Chant feel, their continuous chase for artistic perfection has made their creations feel unique.

Royal Chant’s latest release, “Blunt Force Drama,” is a tongue-in-cheek release that sees the Australian band nonetheless taking an important ideological stand. Underneath the smooth instrumental performance and Spence’s compelling vocals, “Blunt Force Drama” is a criticism.

Royal Chant wanted to address NRL players refusing to wear special jerseys for gay pride week due to their right-wing beliefs while simultaneously being fine with alcohol and gambling sponsors. It’s a wonderful example of conscious music done right, and if the music continues to be this compelling, the future of this talented group will remain bright.

As they gear up for the album launch, Royal Chant continues to enchant listeners with every lead-up release. Whenever you’re ready, tap in and stream Royal Chant’s latest release, “Blunt Force Drama,” on all majour streaming platforms.
