Writer: BUZZ LABUZZ LA

Alexia Trif is a Romanian singer, songwriter and record producer. She signed with Blue Sound Records in August last year and her debut single ‘’Hidden’’ was released in October. She has now released her second single ‘’Still In Love’’ ahead of her debut album which she plans to release in May 2020.

Alexia’s latest offering ‘’Still in Love’’ was released on the 15th of February. The song is an R&B / Hip Hop track that tells the story about a break up in which Alexia still has strong feelings for her ex-partner. Her opening lines ‘’I know you’re still in love with me, you know I’m still in love with you, but we don’t talk to each other’’ which is an experience that many people can relate to. The first part of the song reflects on the good times. In the second verse she sings about how he’s trying to forget his past and move on from her but she can see through him and how he’s behaving on the surface. "You keep lying to yourself, but I can easily see into your eyes You still care about myself’. She questions him and tries to see if he’s willing to work on things since they were so deeply in love. Her smooth voice accompanied by the groovy beat results in a catchy song which you will want to have on repeat.

Hey there Alexia Welcome to BuzzMusic! We're really pleased to be featuring your latest single "Still In Love". Could you tell us about the creative process, and what inspired you to be so open and vulnerable on the song.

Hello, BuzzMusic. Thank you very much! I would be more than happy to talk about this. Well, I usually start writing a song by playing chords on the piano and adding the vocal line and the lyrics afterward, but this was not the case for “Still in Love”. The song’s chorus popped up in my head while I was taking a shower. I must have been frustrated as me, and my “ex” boyfriend did not have a proper conversation for quite a long time. I think it was just vanity from both parties, even though I was convinced that we were both still in love with each other. Therefore, the song came up as a dedication to him.

It’s so exciting how thoughts and desires can turn into reality. Not long after I wrote this song, we got back together. I didn’t know that I will ever release any of the songs that I wrote, but somehow, music did its magic. Not only that it brought my boyfriend back, but it brought him as my producer and mixing engineer who I am thrilled to work with. Without him, this project would not have been possible.

The song has been written in the key of C sharp minor in a measure of 4 crotchet beats with a classical structure, namely first verse, chorus, second verse, chorus, bridge and 3x chorus where each part opens up a different scene. From the production point of view, I wanted something simple, so the chosen instruments are drums, snaps, bass, choir and strings. Strings are my favorite instruments. You will most likely notice their presence in most of my songs because they simply resonate with my soul and personality. Because I wanted to bring the 90’s air to the song, some vinyl scratching sounds have been added as one last detail.

Who are your biggest inspirations?

Michael Jackson is my first idol. I started listening to his music when I was a little child, and there was something special about it that made me fall in love with him as an artist. I have been amazed by his vocal timbre and his singing technique, the concepts behind his videos, the artistic image that he created during his career. He was able to express his feelings through his transparent and full of emotion voice, the unique harmonies within the vocal production, the chord progression, the overall music production and the meaningful lyrics. His stage presence, choreographies and stage outfits are also essential elements of his personality which had a significant impact on my personal development as an artist. He is my inspiration, motivation and the main reason why I chose this path.

Britney Spears is another inspirational persona within the music scene which I relate to in many aspects, such as vocal technique and timbre, genre, style and attitude. I think that all these mutual features made me appreciate and admire her, ever since I discovered her, whereas she became a role model in the early days of my music career.

Along with Michael Jackson and Britney Spears, other artists have inspired me, namely, Rihanna, Beyonce, Alicia Keys, Christina Aguilera and many more late 90’s artists. Also, contemporary artists like Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande, Mabel, Zhavia, Dua Lipa and Bruno Mars are part of the daily basis inspirations.

We are aware that your debut album is being released in May of this year, could you tell us what we can expect to hear on the album?

The story behind the album is based on my love experience. Each song represents and describes the different stages and moments of my first relationship. Various styles and genres have been approached while working on this album, which helped me to freely express my feelings and emotions. Due to the positive and negative aspects of my relationship, the album has been named Sweet & Bitter. Therefore, “sweet” associates with the good parts of the relationship while “bitter” is the opposite. By listening to all the songs, you will find out more details about my story.

Are there any artists who you would love to collaborate with in the future?

I am an open-minded person, so I would happily collaborate with other artists who share the same passion for music, regardless of the genre. I do consider that great things could also come from unexpected collaborations between people who have different cultural and musical backgrounds. There are many artists that I would love to collaborate with, but if I have to name a few, Jorja Smith, Stormzy, Kwabs, Kara Marni, Rahh, Lady Leshurr, Lewis Capaldi, Lil Baby, Zhavia Ward, Post Malone, and NF will top the list. A few artists from Romania, which I would also love to collaborate are ROXEN, Connect-R, Killa Fonic, Carla’s Dreams, Uddi, Randi and Smiley.

Thank you for talking with us Alexia, and congratulations on "Still In Love"! What do you think fans can expect from you this year?

Since most of the people who listen to my music are from Romania, I will be performing a few shows back there and in the UK this year. I am currently working on my very first merchandise which will hopefully be available soon. Beside my debut album, I am planning to release more music and maybe a few collaborations.

Thank you very much for having me. It was a pleasure to answer your questions.
