CEO and Founder of Souf Inner Circle LLC, Antonio Finley, better known as SM Tone, has always had a passion for helping others reach their full potential. At a young age, he found himself working as a stagehand to help out his grandfather, John Peek, who at the time was the director of one of America’s first all-Black Philharmonic Orchestra’s called Music South. From there, his interest in music exploded.
Fast forward to today and he works with multiple creatives of all realms as he assists them with marketing strategies, resources, information, and opportunities that aren’t available in mainstream media. His vision is to show the world that no matter the circumstances when you truly believe in your dream and invest in yourself, that anything is possible.
In the most recent sonic and visual coupling for SM Tone’s “Soufside Baby,” we dive into the melodic essence of his artistry that hits in an impactful way.
The instrumentation is laced with a soul as the golden saxophone notes and delicate piano chords leap from your speakers. Once SM Tone touches down on the beat, we hear a brilliant display of sweet-sounding lyrics that reflect him reminiscing on his come-up. To go hand in hand with the meaningful narrative, we have eye-catching visuals that touch on a brightly-colored theme as SM Tone can be seen around his neck of the woods being nostalgic through recollections while he pulls listeners into a slice of his life and journey.
We see the highs and lows of the representation as SM Tone gets up close and personal with his story. Some of the lows including caution tape our front of houses as he pays homage to those no longer with us, and the highs focusing on community, going from rags to riches, and the sense of unity that he carries with him on his way to the top.
After taking in “Soufside Baby,” we can’t help to feel like we’re better acquainted with SM Tone as an artist and individual ready to take on the world as he uplifts others and reminds us; never forget where you came from.
Welcome back to BuzzMusic, SM Tone, and congratulations on the release of “Soufside Baby.” This is such a beautiful piece that represents your journey in a way that not a lot of artists are willing to expose. What inspired you to get vulnerable in the lyrics we hear?
I’m open about journey and growth with my fans and listeners to prove that if I can change my circumstances, anyone with the right goal & mindset can achieve anything they want.
What was it like on the set of the music video for “Soufside Baby?" How does it feel to include such a big part of who you are in the visual representation of this song?
The vibe was lit, had my people there supporting me, honestly motivating them motivates me that’s why I make sure to include members of the Soufside Mafia in all of my videos. It feels good to come from where I come from and actually be able to do something positive and still be able to come to yo hood.
What are you hoping that your audience takes away from both the music video and song as a whole?
I just want the world to see that anything is possible and that no situation is permanent, we can achieve anything we put our mind to.
What has been the best piece of advice you have received throughout your career to date?
Invest In Yourself
