Matteson Gregory is an up and coming pop artist from Branson, MO. Growing up surrounded by music, Matteson owes her passion for music to her father’s band experience, her grandparent's karaoke parties, and of course her notable influences of Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran. Matteson’s debut single “Comfortable” was released this past spring and garnered nothing but success from fans, leading Matteson to release a brand new single “Stayed!”.
“Stayed!” gives the listener an introspective look at Matteson’s stirring thoughts and emotions and the regrets and ups and downs that occur after the loss of love. Emotive lyrics lay out a poetic story for the listening as Matteson weaves her way through a raw and powerful performance. “Stayed!” boasts Matteson’s ability to blend Soul and Pop to create a genre-bending new wave sound. Electronic instrumentals fused together flawlessly create a catchy and eclectic arrangement. Her vocals possess an alluring melancholy similar to Taylor Swift’s style of singing. Matteson expertly delivers enlivening poetry that any listener can relate to. Her ability to connect with her fans in unmatched in today’s industry. Heartrending and authentic to the core “Stayed!” stays true to its name. I highly recommend you check out this track and stay on the lookout for the explosive, up and coming Matteson Gregory.

Hi Matteson, welcome to BuzzMusic! Can you tell our readers more about your upbringing and what really pushed you to get started in the music industry?
I was brought up in a very close-knit, loving, and supportive family. I have so many memories going to my grandparents and hanging out with my cousins. I also remember doing a lot of karaoke nights and I would always get up and sing. I would say my family is for sure the reason why I am pursing music. I've always had a love for music and would've pursued it but having such a big, caring support system definitely makes you feel like you can do this.
We’re always interested in how artists convey their music. If you had to describe yours without using any specific genre names (ie: Pop) how would you describe it?
Some words I would use to describe my music would be honest, flowy, and melodic. I'm always trying to test different melodies and different instrumentals on every song I write. I really like to think outside the box with every song.
We love your track “Stayed!”, it’s very vulnerable and real Can you tell us more about the inspiration behind it? Do you try to base all of your songwriting on life experiences?
Thanks! The real inspiration behind this song is about a person that I wish would've stayed. I found myself constantly thinking about the what ifs and just wishing that they would walk through the door and we could pick up where we left off. I mean, I still think about that.
That is one thing you can always take from my music. I will always write about my life and my experiences. I want people to connect with me and I think the best way to do that is to be vulnerable.
What’s the music scene like in your hometown of Branson, MO? What challenges have you faced as an up and coming artist? How do you overcome those challenges?
The music scene in Branson is pretty small but it seems to be getting better. More and more local businesses are pushing for local music. That's one of the challenges I've faced as and up and coming artist: finding places that will let you play. There have been so many times where I have messaged places and they either won't message back or they don't have space. A lot of these places want cover bands so it's hard to find places that will let you play original music. But that's never really stopped me because I always tend to find places that let me play and they are always loyal to me and my music and that is so important to find.
Thanks so much for sharing your new single “Stayed!” with us! What other projects are you working on!? Do you have any upcoming shows to support the new single?
As of right now, I'm focusing on promoting the single by doing blogs and asking people to add it to their playlists. I actually will be playing at the Summit Art Festival in Lee's Summit on the release date so I will for sure be promoting there like crazy. I'm always working on the next thing so stay tuned!
