STAXXI Delivers Beautiful, Vulnerable New Single “Barbie”

Writer: BUZZ LABUZZ LA

STAXXI is a dreamy singer/songwriter based right here in Los Angeles. Originally from the Chicago suburbs, indie-pop songstress STAXXI has always had a love of music in her DNA. Writing and singing music since a young age, STAXXI is currently working on the release of her debut EP. Her single “Barbie” is out now and available on all major streaming platforms.

“Barbie” is an honest new song from STAXXI that focuses on the feelings of being a misfit. Seeing the ideal “Barbie” type of girl and coming herself to a “Bratz” doll. She’s got an edge and appeal that make her individual and beautiful in her own way. STAXXI’s ability to set the scene and to move from the imagery of the verses to the intimacy and central sentiments of the hook makes for something that manages to captivate on its own strength alone. Nothing fancy or overly flashy is needed to brighten up the energy of “Barbie”, the realness of STAXXI’s lyrics work with the genuine vibrancy of the performance. It feels like a live performance, a moment of truth captured, with nothing to hide behind. You can hear STAXXI’s connection to the subject matter, and that makes all the difference. We can’t wait to hear more from this up and coming artist!

Welcome to BuzzMusic STAXXI! Congrats on the release of your new single “Barbie”! What does this song represent for you?

Thank you so much! This song is really special to me, It feels really personal and raw, and I love being able to share that side of myself through music. This song for me represents that it's okay to have insecurities and imperfections. These are the qualities that really make someone who they are and we should all be embracing the non-perfect side of us. We aren't all perfect, but it's about accepting that and just being you.

Where is the best setting to listen to “Barbie”, and what do you hope people take away from it?

I think people can listen to "Barbie" really anywhere! It's got a good chill vibe, but also has an upbeat feel to it. I've been jamming out to it in my car :). What I hope people will take away from this song is to be comfortable in your own skin, and to try not to compare ourselves to others all the time.

What’s your favorite lyric that you feel has the most impact in “Barbie”? Why?

My favorite line from the song is, "I've got a darkness in my soul and I don't think I can feel the way you do." In this line, the darkness refers to my anxiety, and the "darkness" affects how I feel, think or act sometimes. I think this will have a lot of impact on my listeners because a lot of people can relate to. There are a lot of people who might struggle with anxiety and I think it needs to be openly talked about more. I think people need to know that it's okay.

What’s your creative process like? What emotions do you channel when writing new material?

My favorite thing to do when I write is to think about something that I might be dealing with or going through in my life, and then I try to create a story with my lyrics. I get into these zones where I will just sit there with my guitar and just word vomit different sentences and concepts and then somehow I end up blending everything together to create a new song. It's very therapeutic for me. Depending on how I'm feeling I can channel many different emotions, whether it's love, anger, sadness, fear, etc. It just depends on my mood during that writing session.

Do you have any upcoming events or shows you’d like to talk about? What’s next for you through the end of 2019?

I'm hoping to start performing a lot more through the end of 2019. Right now, I've really been focusing on working on my EP. I've been in the studio a lot just writing, creating and collaborating with other talented artists. My focus is to get my EP done, and then to hopefully start performing more and touring in the near future.
