For years, Storyboard P has been celebrated as one of the most innovative movement artists of his generation, earning comparisons to creative visionaries and building a reputation that stretches from New York street corners to collaborations with some of music's biggest names. On "I Be A Fool," however, he asks listeners to focus on something else entirely: his voice.
The result is surprisingly captivating.
Built around a warm, soulful groove, "I Be A Fool" unfolds with an effortless intimacy that feels worlds away from the high-energy dance performances many associate with Storyboard P. Rather than demanding attention, the track gently pulls listeners into its orbit through understated melodies, dreamy production, and lyrics that prioritize emotional connection over surface-level attraction.
What makes the song stand out is its patience. In an era where vulnerability is often packaged into catchy soundbites, Storyboard P slows things down. The track lingers in conversation, curiosity, and emotional openness, exploring the idea that genuine intimacy begins long before anything physical. Lines about talking through memories and understanding another person's inner world give the song a refreshing sense of maturity that feels increasingly rare.
There's also an undeniable sense of authenticity running through the record. Knowing the song was written and recorded in a remarkably short period only adds to its charm. Nothing about "I Be A Fool" feels overworked or manufactured. Instead, it carries the spontaneity of an artist discovering a new creative language in real time.
The accompanying video serves as a reminder of the artistic universe Storyboard P has been building for decades. Even in a simple warehouse setting, his movement remains mesmerizing, blurring the line between dance, illusion, and storytelling. Yet for perhaps the first time, the visuals feel secondary to the music itself.
"I Be A Fool" doesn't feel like a side project or an experiment. It feels like the arrival of another dimension of Storyboard P's artistry. If this single is any indication of what's to come from his ambitious four-part album project, audiences may soon be talking about Storyboard P the musician with the same reverence they've long reserved for Storyboard P the performer.
For years, the world has known you primarily as a movement artist. What inspired you to step forward as a recording artist now, and why did this feel like the right moment?
Well, I've been working on a full Jerome Robbins-level delivery since 2016, but I've been writing before dancing. It's actually a bigger passion of mine than dancing. Storytelling. Also, you can't own your creations when you are just a Dancer or street dancer. You're just seen as jewelry for music artists, respectfully.
"I Be A Fool" embraces vulnerability and emotional connection in a way that feels refreshingly unguarded. Was that level of openness difficult to bring into your songwriting?
The level of openness was easy. I wrote the song in ten minutes—the hook in five. I have autism, some things come to me like water, or a spiritual awareness and awakening. It took me thirty minutes altogether to harmonize and deliver
You've described creating the song in roughly thirty minutes. What do you think happens creatively when you trust your instincts and avoid overthinking the process?
It's when you're your most wavy, like a moloch or owl seeing in the dark as a leader.
Your artistic language has always blurred the lines between dance, storytelling, music, and visual art. Do you see your music as a separate chapter or simply another extension of the same creative vision?
It's all different chapters under one major book or novel.
You've worked with icons like Erykah Badu, Alicia Keys, Beyoncé, Usher, and Drake throughout your career. What lessons from those experiences have influenced the way you're approaching your own music?
I learned that being yourself completely gets you where you need to go. Stay authentic as ever, and you'll be straight.
