We are very happy to have you here with us and want to give you a big congratulations on your single, “Boy." Can you tell us a bit about the inspiration behind this track?
Thank you so much. This song is a coming-of-age story. During the time I wrote “Boy”, there was a person I’d known who had changed a lot since we had become friends. We were never really close but I knew them enough to say we grew apart. So I decided to write from someone who knew them well and was greatly affected by their change.
How do songs like “Boy" represent you and help us get to know you better as an artist?
"Boy" represents me as an artist because it showcases my storytelling and shows how I process change in my life. Most of my songs are the result of me digesting these new emotional obstacles as I grow up.
You have an amazing knack for blending multiple genres, including Pop, Rock, and Contemporary Soul. Is there any genre you haven’t yet explored that you might want to tap into more with future releases?
I think in the future it would be fun to play with some blues and maybe immerse myself more in some rock.
Did you have a specific idea in mind of you who hoped this song would resonate with the most? What do you hope listeners will take away from this song while hearing it for the first time?
When I wrote this song, I initially wrote it for myself. At the time I felt confused and wrote this song to help me better understand the change in people, life, and growing up. I hope listeners take away from this song because sometimes people drift away because they are trying to find themselves and it’s normal to be frustrated and confused by this. Change is difficult and I think people will be able to connect with this exhaustion of trying to understand why people grow apart.
What's next for you?
My goal right now is to build up a catalog of music and show some of the people around me who really believe in me what I can do. More music, more videos, and continuing to learn how to navigate the music business.
