Multidisciplinary artist Keith Kugo specializes in music production, architecture, and painting.
Always aiming to push the envelope within the artistry field, he is constantly progressing in his sound and refusing to be bound to one box, and his latest single, "Digital," is a prime example.
Keith Kugo has always embraced and deeply related to his cultural roots. Originally from Zimbabwe, he continuously draws from and infuses the vivid experiences of his childhood and the transition to living in New Zealand and Australia into his creative process.
With his debut EP still fairly fresh to the scene, Keith Kugo has capitalized on this moment to bring forth another taste of his witty concepts. Offering listeners the highly-anticipated follow-up project titled 'CURIOSITY I,' we‘re quickly drawn toward the body of work.
The lead single, “DIGITAL,” allows Keith Kugo to tap into introspection. Gritty synths and revolutionary pads open up this record with an outwardly floodlit vision into Keith Kugo’s mind.
Resting on top of the shadowy tinges released in the instrumentation, you’re immediately pulled into an eclectic coil of Keith Kugo’s tenacity in the production realm. Through the speakers, twinkles of ethos immerse you in a well-versed example of how far he travels in his figurative and literal artistry.
Painting rich images that have your attention peaked, the context of “DIGITAL” has Keith Kugo expressing the challenges of navigating relationships within the social media setting.
Two worlds collide in the free-flowing energy from his vocalization and the unapologetic grooves that the beat emits. Performing luscious cascades that hold a persevering texture, what awes us the most is Keith Kugo’s ability to perform such lucid vocals overtop a hard-hitting instrumental as such.
That being said, it’s not just Keith Kugo’s sound that captivates us. His enthralling influence also resides in the words he conveys through brilliantly scripted lyrical motifs.
With six tracks spanning over 'CURIOSITY I,' there’s much to take in through the beauty and brains Keith Kugo laces his music with. Continuing to pave his lane with an amazingly exclusive style – he has no plans of slowing down anytime soon.
Welcome to BuzzMusic, Keith Kugo, and congratulations on releasing your latest EP. We loved listening to “DIGITAL” and tasting your unique approach to the music you create. With the theme being based on relationships – is the context of the lyrics based on a true story?
Thank you for listening! I think digital is partly a true story and partly a summary of my conversations with my close friends. I found that when I'd talk to my friends about what I was going through, they had eerily similar events that they were also experiencing. It was fun to write from both my and potential listeners' perspectives.
What inspired you to make “DIGITAL” the leading single from this project? What picture does it paint about the rest of the songs heard on 'CURIOSITY I?'
Digital was chosen as the lead single on this project as it encapsulated what I wanted the overall EP to be. It was a break from my traditional writing and production techniques, and I felt it succinctly described where I was mentally and where I wanted to go with the rest of the project.
With 'CURIOSITY I' is the first volume from the multi-installment series. What can we expect from the other volumes to come out?
I want the curiosity series to be something that pushes and challenges me. So all of the installments will be delving into topics and worlds that I wouldn't venture down. I want the sound to be cohesive but distinct between each installment. They'll be different planets but within the same solar system.
Tackling multiple parts of the artistry experience, what happens to be your favorite part of the creative and release process?
I've been falling in love with the lyric writing process lately. I've been producing since I was around 11, but I've only recently started writing lyrics to my ideas. It's a huge world, and I have so much to say. I thoroughly enjoy seeing the different parts of my life I pull from and put into songwriting.
What's next for you?
I'm excited for 2023. A few collaborative projects have been in the works for a long time and are finally seeing the light of day early next year! I'm already deep into creating the other curiosity installations, so I'm excited for the new year.
