The Mans a G Keep His Eye On The “Prize”

The Mans a G is a talented singer/songwriter and multi instrumentalist residing in New York City. He enjoys a healthy balance of music performance, education, composition, and research.  As a multi-instrumentalist, he plays the Trumpet, Trombone, Euphonium, Guitar, Bass Guitar, Piano, and Drumset in addition to singing. The Mans a G is an emphatically fanatic connoisseur of sound.  Growing up in the hometown of Dizzy Gillespie, Cheraw South Carolina, The Mans a G acknowledged that he was destined to be a musical artist who strove to bring communities together for higher achievement.

The Mans a G’s voice is the first thing to grab you, this softly raspy vocal sings clearly and expresses vulnerability and passion intertwined. After this, the lyrics really start to sink in, “Prize” gathers momentum slowly but surely, never overstepping the mark or becoming anything irrelevant or overly attention grabbing. It feels like a very natural exploration of the central sentiments of the writing. The Mans a G pours so much heart into the process and when the passion reaches its peak his voice more than meets the needs of the moment. He screams out on behalf of everyone who’s ever felt the passion and conflict expressed throughout “Prize”. An impressive track, we can’t wait to hear more from The Mans a G

Welcome to BuzzMusic! What does the music in “Prize” represent or mean for you?

It's an honor to give this interview, thanks for the wonderful opportunities that you guys provide at BuzzMusic. The music in "Prize" is a bold affirmation to remain steadfast in your dreams. It represents an inner-dialogue between two versions of oneself; one driven by fear, the other by principle.  In order to achieve our dreams we have to take some calculated risk. This song is about surviving; to thrive while being surrounded by naysayers who harbour fear and intimidation. To push through, no matter what, and achieve your wildest dreams.

Where do you imagine is the best setting in which to experience this music?

The best setting to experience this music is when you are sitting in your car after a long day.  You're weary.  You're beat down.  Your ideas have been rejected and belittled.  For years and years you've been trying your best with no results.  Any progress is a hard-fought bare-bellied crawl through broken glass.  But you still feel a fire in your chest.  You look in the mirror and see the pain and passion in your eyes.    You play this song and feel an elevation in purpose and service.  You feel encouraged to double-down and stay true to your most lofty dreams.

What do you hope listeners take away from “Prize”?

Self-acceptance is an important theme that I hope listeners take away from my song, "Prize".  It's important to love yourself and strive for the things that make you happy.  Realize that you are complete, nothing is missing.  Yes, there are tons of things necessary for an individual to improve upon from a personal standpoint, but remain optimistic and steadfast.  Fall in love with yourself and distance your self from people who don't accept you as you are.

Which single composition of yours would you recommend to new listeners, and why?

I began my career as an instrumentalist so I'm on lots of songs, but this is my first foray as a solo artist so "Prize" is my only choice at the moment.  I am super excited about new music I'm releasing in September.  Stay tuned!

What’s your main aspiration as an artist right now?

My main aspiration is to uplift others while I express myself.  To cause reflection and progress through my art-form.  Funny thing is that I don't aim to become particularly famous, I just want to provide a cosmic balm to whomever stumbles upon my music by happenstance.  I aspire to become a better story-teller and arrange music in the most compelling way possible.
