Hey Tome! Welcome to BuzzMusic! Congratulations on the release of your debut album! Can you tell our readers a little bit about yourself as an artist?
I AM AN AFRO-RNB SINGER SONGWRITER, BORN OF FRENCH CANADIAN AND NIGERIAN HERITAGE. MY GOAL IS TO CHANGE THE GAME IN THE INDUSTRY AND BRING SOMETHING FRESH AND NEW TO THE MAINSTREAM WHILE SPREADING A MESSAGE OF WOMAN/PEOPLE EMPOWERMENT ALONG THE WAY.
"L'amour" had an overwhelmingly captivating feel to it. What was the underlying message to this track?
L'AMOUR IS ABOUT THE OBSESSION THAT COMES WITH A RELATIONSHIP AND THE DECEPTION THAT MAY FOLLOW WITH THAT WHEN THE LOVE IS TOO STRONG.
Who would you say were the top three musical influences that shaped the overall production of your EP?
I WOULDN'T SAY THERE WAS ANY SPECIFIC MUSICAL INFLUENCES PER SAY; BUT I HAVE CAUGHT MYSELF THINKING ABOUT DRAKE'S COMMON FLOW WHICH INFLUENCED "SUNSET IN THE VINES". HOWEVER, EVERY OTHER SONG WAS MAINLY INFLUENCED BY THE BEAT ITSELF; I PREFER TO WRITE MY LYRICS ONCE I'VE FELT OUT THE BEAT.
While curating "L'amour" did you come across any serious creative blocks? How was the curative process of the entire EP?
OH YEAH I ALWAYS GET CREATIVE BLOCKS, A LOT OF THE TIME, I END UP WRITING THE FIRST VERSE AND THE HOOK AND THEN TAKE A FEW DAYS BEFORE I COMPLETE THE SONG. AND THEN OTHER TIMES, I'LL JUST THINK OF RHYMES RANDOMLY, ALMOST LIKE A SPOKEN REASON AND WRITE IT DOWN; IF IT FITS IN THE BEAT, PERFECT! IF NOT, I JUST STORE THEM AWAY. USUALLY AT THE MOST RANDOM TIMES, WHEN I HAVE DONE A LOT OF PHYSICAL WORK, THAT'S WHEN THE MOST LYRICS COME TO ME. IT'S VERY ODD FOR ME TO BE ABLE TO WRITE RIGHT AWAY WHEN I HEAR A BEAT OR WITHOUT A BEAT.
What's next for you as an artist? Are there any goals for the rest of 2019?
FOR REST OF 2019 MY GOAL IS TO DOUBLE THE AMOUNT OF EXPOSURE AND HOPEFULLY GAIN A STRONG FOLLOWING OF SUPPORT SO I CAN HAVE MY OWN HEADLINING AMERICAN TOUR BY THE START OF 2020.
