Hey Tyler! Can you start by telling our readers about your upbringing and how you got started making music?

I was born and raised in a small town on the coast of BC, and that has always been in the fibre of who I am. I spent a few years in Ontario while attending university, but couldn’t stay away from the ocean much longer. I’m always very grateful for that time in my life though because it was what sparked me picking up guitar and pursuing song-writing. The major catalyst of me wanting to make music was John Mayer’s Born and Raised album. I wanted to be able to connect to people the way the songs on that album connected to me.

How do you draw inspiration from your wide variety of influences?

For me a lot of my influences are sub-conscious from a writing perspective. I never go into a writing situation saying I want to replicate such a song, or make a song like an individual, but I know that the music I listen to, and especially the stuff I listen to frequently has a huge influence on what I write. I tend to write across a lot of genres, so each song will have influences or possible comparisons to other people. I basically hope to take the sum of the musicians before me, and ones that inspire me, and to help move forward the collective body of work.

We love “She’s The One”! Can you talk about the meaning of the lyrics?

She’s The One for me was a friend-zone song of sorts. Not that I felt hard-done by in any way shape or form, but there was someone I wasn’t sure of how to express my feelings towards and this song was originally a very quick writing session of my thoughts on everything. A few changes were made in pre-production, but the song stayed largely the same from start to finish.

What do you hope your listeners take away from this song?

I hope with all my songs to encourage listeners to be emotionally honest with themselves and others. Another take away might be chances are worth taking! After I wrote this, I pursued said relationship and It led to a fulfilling year and a half with the person the song was originally about.

What’s next for you?

Currently I am touring behind my EP, ‘Can You Tell’.  After the summer of touring I’ll be back to my day job, which is working at a salmon enhancement facility. I have a number of songs ready for recording, so it will just be a waiting game to secure funding and make a strategic plan for the next release
