Hey Kidarah! Welcome to BuzzMusic! We love your original sound! How long have you been involved in the music industry? How did you get first started?
I have been involved in music my whole life. My dad is a professional drummer who has worked with Ricky Martin, Jeff Beck, Joss Stone, and many other incredible musicians. Needless to say, I’ve been surrounded by music my entire life. Becoming a singer was never a decision I had to deliberately make either, I just knew in my bones that this was what I needed to do with my life. I started taking pop/soul vocal lessons with the Grammy award-winning Betty Wright at age fifteen and still consult with her to this day. I also started producing my own music to accompany my lyrics and melodies around this time.
We love your song “Golden Sea”! It seems deeply personal and uplifting. What did you hope to achieve with this release?
Golden Sea is one of the most personal songs I’ve ever written. Around the time I started singing seriously at age fifteen, I was suffering from severe anxiety and panic attacks. Music has been helping me to regulate those feelings and acts as a form of natural therapy for me. Early this year, I guess I felt comfortable enough to let that story pour out of me and onto a page. The whole song is a conversation focusing on my older self asking my younger self, “why won’t you set it free? Release all your anxiety”. I still suffer from anxiety and a little depression, but not nearly as much as I used to. I believe this song helped me dig deeper to find more ways to reduce these feelings. I hope to let people who suffer from anxiety and depression know that they are not alone, and it is okay to have those feelings. We all just need to look within and talk to our inner selves sometimes to get to the root of the problem. Trust me, I get lost in my feelings and go crazy sometimes, but I always try to regulate myself with inner communication and controlling my emotions in a positive and healthy way. Most importantly, this song is a tool to help teach others how to do this for themselves too.
We also checked out your debut release “BOUNCE HOUSE”! It really highlights your versatility as an artist. Will you be releasing a track that really fuses these two sides of your artistry together?
Thank you for checking it out! Bounce House was such a fun song to make. I definitely want to play around with fusing my hip hop and pop vibes together and I’m sure a song will pour out of me that does just that one of these days. As of right now, I let myself write freely and see where the music takes me naturally. This is just the beginning and I plan on using my gifts to bring all kinds of music together, beyond what you’ve heard from me so far.
How would you say your music now compares to the music you curated when you first started out in the music industry?
I wrote my first whole song at age nine and have been writing ever since. From the moment I wrote that song, my family knew I was a pop artist. All my melodies were naturally catchy and would create sound worms in the minds of anyone who heard it. I can confidently say that I still write with that same flavor, in any genre I choose to tackle. I have, however, expanded my range of knowledge about different genres of music, so now I can incorporate more rhythms and melodies than I knew of when I first started writing. I’m always learning though, so as I grow and evolve, I expect my inner melodies to evolve with me.
