How did music become part of your healing process, and how does it continue to play a role in your recovery? Thank you so much. That means the world to me! It was a damn long road, as I say in the song, but I am so glad to be on the other side and getting stronger each day. ☺ After my car accident, I couldn’t sing for a while due to neck pain, vocal trauma, and breathing difficulties. But one day, I picked up the guitar and started learning to play. It became a daily comfort, and on my better days, I began writing lyrics based on what I was feeling. When I felt like I had something worth sharing, I’d call my friend and trusted songwriter, David Madras. Even though I couldn’t look at screens for too long, he helped me bring the songs together melodically over the phone, patiently guiding me through what sometimes felt like scrambled ideas. During this time, I also leaned heavily on motivational Christian music, which gave me the strength and encouragement to keep going. Music became my emotional outlet and continues to be a source of inspiration in my recovery. On tough days, it’s my go-to to get me back on my feet—my daily dose of hope. I must have listened to Lauren Daigle’s “You Say” every night before bed. I have always been so passionate about the power of music in my life. It’s what I looked forward to then, and it’s still my healer now. You co-wrote Finding My Feet with some impressive collaborators like Jesse Slack and Daryl Scott. Can you walk us through the creative process behind the song and what it was like working with such talented songwriters? Jesse, Daryl, and Rich have been incredible mentors to me. They're such talented and experienced songwriters, and I knew I was in good hands. Working with them was a game-changer in how I approached telling my story. They encouraged me to focus less on every little detail of my personal experience and instead keep the storytelling simple and universal. Not everyone has been through a car accident, but everyone knows what it's like to struggle, to face tough moments, and to search for hope. By stripping it down and making the message more relatable, it allowed me to speak from the heart in a way that felt natural. That was such a valuable lesson—when you stop overthinking and just tell it like it is, the right words and emotions come together effortlessly. Sharing small stories and experiences helped create visuals that captured the message in a deeper, more impactful way than just saying, I struggled, but I found hope. It was about opening up and allowing the listeners to connect to the raw truth. The song feels deeply personal, almost as if we’re hearing your inner dialogue. How did you find the courage to be so vulnerable in sharing your story through music, and what do you hope listeners take away from it? This song is incredibly personal, and the only way I could really capture its truth was by being open and vulnerable about the emotions and thoughts I was experiencing. It was important for me to let the audience into the uncomfortable parts of my healing journey so that the message could truly resonate. Honestly, I sat on the song for a while, unsure if I was ready to share it. But when I started playing it live, and people began approaching me after shows to talk about how it impacted them, I knew it was something special. They shared their own vulnerabilities with me, and it felt like we were all connecting in a deep, real way. Releasing it into the world, though, was a different challenge. Once it’s out there, there’s no taking it back, and I worried about how it would affect the brand I’d worked so hard to build. However, I was reminded by fellow artists like Andrew Hyatt and The Reklaws how important it is to be vulnerable and share my story, especially when it connects to mental health. They’ve been brave in sharing their own struggles through their music, and that gave me the courage to push past my fears of what others might think. This song began as my story, my healing journey, but it’s become so much more. It’s my testimony to encourage others to keep going. It’s for that girl who feels lost, for anyone afraid to ask for help, for those who feel that sharing their struggles will change the way people see them. I want people to know they’re not alone. My music has evolved a lot since “Happy Place,” mainly because I have evolved. I’ve grown as a person, artist, and performer. I’ve spent time exploring my voice and songwriting, learning what works for me through trial and error, live shows, and working with a team that truly allows me to be myself. They’ve helped me discover my strengths and pushed me to my full, authentic potential. I’m more confident now, and I’ve shifted my focus from pleasing others to creating music that’s true to me and my listeners. Fans can expect my upcoming EP, Breaking the Habit, to reflect this growth. It’s raw, honest, and confident, with themes of personal growth, healing, and breaking habits. The songs touch on self-worth, healthy relationships, taking ownership of life, and struggles we all face. It's my most genuine project yet, and I hope people find themselves in it, knowing that no matter the journey, it gets better. When people hear this song, I want them to feel empowered, like they’re not alone in their struggles, and that embracing who they are, having patience with where they are at, and having faith in a brighter future will help them keep moving forward. In the world of Bummer Camp's Eli Frank, creative momentum is everything. While waiting on mixes from another project, Frank channeled that restless energy into writing and recording the band's sophomore album "Stuck in a Dream" (out February 14 via Trash Casual). What emerged is a record that embraces contradiction – where spontaneity meets perfectionism, intimate acoustic beginnings transform into shoegaze epics, and imperfection becomes its own kind of perfection. We spoke with Frank about finding magic in the unplanned moments, the evolution from bedroom recordings to full-band revelations, and why some of the best creative work happens when you're caught in between. The album was written between projects while waiting on mixes from another unreleased work. How did that liminal creative space—being caught between projects—influence the themes of being "stuck" versus "waking up" that appear throughout the record? In my past, especially with projects where I’ve had to wait on others to keep writing, recording, or releasing, I’ve definitely had the feeling of being "stuck.". I’m not sure I felt that here, maybe moreso a feeling of anticipation or anxiety to keep pushing. That definitely “wakes” something up in me. Even now, I’m working on demos, but when I feel inspired, I don’t want to let that escape. So you could also apply it to feeling artistically stuck and awake. You mention that the songs began as simple humming melodies with acoustic guitar before expanding into these "shoegaze powerhouse" arrangements. What was the most surprising transformation you witnessed as these intimate songs evolved into their final forms? I have to give credit to my friend & creative coworker Peter Gargano, who plays drums on all these songs (except for "Pass Out"). I demo out all the songs with Peter, and that’s 100% where the greatest transformation happens & where we work out a lot of the kinks. He also helps me decide what songs are worth working on, so big ups to him. Beyond that, they develop more and more as I add things on while I record; it’s a very “in the moment” process. There's an interesting tension in how you describe the record's emotional landscape - "what's bleak is also beautiful; what's beautiful is also bleak because it is ephemeral." How did you work to capture that duality in the sonic texture of tracks like "Destructive Harmony"? I’m not sure if I worked precisely to capture that feeling; rather, it’s just what happened. What comes to you naturally ends up being the most powerful. I’ve had issues in the past of forcing ideas, and they never ended up working. With “Destructive Harmony,” the words come to me based on what melody and structure I come up with. Sonically, the production then followed the mood of the words. I fully want it all to blend and feel cohesive, so in that way, it’s deliberate; it’s a bit paradoxical, I guess. The press mentions that these songs transform significantly when performed live as a four-piece band. When you were recording the album largely solo, did you already have those fuller arrangements in mind, or did the live versions evolve organically through playing with the band? I fully want the live set to be its own thing. The live experience should have a greater impact; if it doesn't, then I think that’s a huge letdown. Anytime I’ve really gotten into a band, it’s because I saw them live, and it blew me away. I do love recorded music, but there’s something magical about live shows. This band changes around pretty frequently, but I’ve been playing with Peter Gargano, Brett Bivona, & Luk Henderiks for a while in other projects, and they know what I’m after and how to bring it, and they did just that. You've made an artistic transition from what Flood Magazine describes as "detailed lo-fi bedroom recordings" to this more expansive sound. How has your approach to perfection versus spontaneity in the recording process evolved alongside that sonic growth? The lo-fi bedroom thing was a means to an end; being stuck at home during COVID-19 made loops, and that’s what came out of it. This is fully what I’ve wanted to make for a long time, and I’ve finally had some time to do it and really focus. The spontaneity occurs in the initial songwriting, and the desired “perfection” occurs during the recording process, even though that is also extremely spontaneous. The lead guitars & vocals are often thought up in the moment, even though I’ll do 795 takes to make sure it’s the right one. I fully believe perfection cannot happen fully planned out. There needs to be imperfections, spontaneous occurrences, and colors that you can’t see.

The evening kicked off with a breathtaking performance from The East Coast Indigenous Aztec Communities , who transported guests into the heart of Mexico with their ancestral dances—Paloma and Águila Blanca—symbolizing attraction, harmony, and partnership. As guests marveled at the mesmerizing courtship duality dances, Sand made a low-key entrance yet still managed to turn heads. The Sustainable Fashion Shows by Love for Upcycling  took center stage, featuring a romantic and glamorous collection in collaboration with Australian artist Julia Rose . The runway lit up with designs from Guadalupe Ramirez, Noel Anthony, and Oumar Diaw from the Djolof African Tribe , all celebrating fashion’s evolution through recycled and reimagined materials. And just when it seemed the night couldn't get more inspiring, the East Coast Indigenous Aztec Communities  made a special presentation, adding yet another layer of depth to the event. The grand finale featured visionary designers Guadalupe Ramirez  and José Alexzander , both redefining the future of upcycled fashion. Ramirez’s indigenous-inspired recycled designs and Alexzander’s live transformation of a 1905 wedding gown into contemporary couture left the crowd speechless.
