  • Rosaic Searches For Her "Forever Valentine" In Timeless New Single

Blessing our speakers is singer-songwriter and versatile recording artist Rosaic, the brainchild of Cathy Nguyen, with a fresh twist on love songs in her latest single, "Forever Valentine." Cathy, the voice behind Rosaic, crafts songs that resonate deeply with listeners by weaving tales of love and longing drawn from the pages of old journals. She's created an artistic concept of a time-traveling girl who finds her mother’s old journals and reads all about her heartbreaks and escapades in her 20s. Her artistic journey goes beyond music, involving interconnected music videos and an accompanying blog showing pages from the journals. The new single, "Forever Valentine," is a particularly important part of this saga, capturing the essence of an endless search for timeless love. The song is a compelling and heartfelt story of persistence and passion in pursuit of love. With its lush electric guitars and atmospheric production, the track offers a modern yet timeless sound reminiscent of the 80s yet entirely new. Its arrangement combines the best of both worlds with contemporary pop sensibilities and a hint of classic romance. Cathy's vocal delivery is both intimate and comprehensive, holding the listener in a warm embrace of melodic storytelling. As she explores the highs and lows of romance in her 20s, her soft vocals continue to yearn for someone special that stays on her mind—asking questions like will they love me when I'm old? Will they weather any storm with me? If you're in search of the perfect tune for your end-of-summer days, find it with Rosaic's newest single, "Forever Valentine," now available on all digital streaming platforms. Welcome to Buzz, Rosaic! The emotional depth of "Forever Valentine" is truly captivating. What inspired you to explore such a deeply personal theme in this song? I was just in a place of loneliness and feeling conflicted about it because I finally had a level of self love which I always wanted, and good friendships around but still felt like that particular type of intimacy was missing and wasn’t sure why it was so hard for me - someone with a lot of love - to find it. It was quite a dark time but I’m over it now luckily haha. "Forever Valentine" has such a distinctive sound, blending elements of city pop with modern vibes. Can you share more about how you developed this unique sound and style? Yes so I could’ve just left it as an acoustic sad song but I thought it would be cool to add some drums in anyway to give it a bit of a groove. My first single “Mona Lisa” was very city pop influenced so this second single was more of a chilled back vibe.  The narrative that "Forever Valentine" is part of is super intriguing. What inspired you to delve into the concept of a time-traveling girl who finds her mother’s old journals? Ah yes thank you it’s quite an interesting narrative but basically each single I release in the Rosaic world follows a story of a time travelling girl watching her mother go through these heartbreaks and life experiences, and she’s watching them and experiencing these emotions through her journal and songs but she can’t intervene with the timeline - I wanted something to do something really creative with my music - make it all Art, like an anime almost. So the girl you see on the single covers is the time travelling daughter and she is holding the journal and wearing headphones and she is scattered around different cities in the world. Life imitates art, this could happen one day in the future - someone I know could find all my journals and read all my stories. I was playing on the idea of that. What was the creative process like for developing the music and lyrics for "Forever Valentine"? Were there any particular challenges you faced during this process? I had the chorus written first but honestly the verses were hardest to write. My producer Adam had to help me think of a melody but once we got the electric guitar out the lyrics started pouring out. What do you hope listeners take away from "Forever Valentine"? Is there a particular message or feeling you want to evoke through this song? I hope people out there can relate to it and know that there is light at the end of the tunnel, the truth is, whilst we’re looking for that “forever valentine” we forget that we are our OWN forever valentines. The longest relationship you will ever have is the one you have with yourself so it’s important to nurture that and look after yourself, and know that even in your lowest moments you are still loved. Someone is out there waiting to fall in love with you, I believe it. Instagram

  • The Importance of Being an Independent Artist: Embracing Autonomy in the Creative World

In today’s rapidly evolving music and art landscapes, the role of the independent artist has become increasingly significant. With advancements in technology and shifts in industry dynamics, artists now have unprecedented opportunities to take control of their careers. Being an independent artist means having the freedom to chart your own course, make creative decisions without compromise, and build a direct relationship with your audience. Here’s an in-depth look at why being an independent artist is crucial and how it can shape your creative journey and success. 1. Creative Freedom Unrestricted Artistic Expression As an independent artist, you retain full control over your creative process. This means you can explore unconventional ideas, experiment with different genres, and express yourself authentically without external constraints. Unlike in traditional label environments where commercial interests may dictate artistic direction, independence allows you to stay true to your vision and create work that resonates with your genuine self. Ownership of Your Work Independence ensures that you own the rights to your music, art, or other creative outputs. This ownership extends to intellectual property rights, royalties, and distribution. By maintaining control over your work, you avoid the typical pitfalls of contracts that can limit your earnings and artistic freedom. 2. Financial Control Direct Revenue Streams Independent artists benefit from direct financial interactions with their audience. With the advent of digital platforms and social media, you can monetize your work through multiple channels, such as streaming, online sales, merchandise, and crowdfunding. This direct revenue model enables you to retain a larger share of your earnings compared to traditional industry structures that often involve intermediaries. Cost Management Being independent allows you to manage your budget according to your needs and priorities. You can allocate resources to areas that matter most to you, whether it’s high-quality production, marketing strategies, or live performances. Additionally, you have the flexibility to make cost-effective decisions and avoid unnecessary expenditures. 3. Building a Personal Brand Direct Audience Engagement One of the most significant advantages of being an independent artist is the ability to build a direct relationship with your audience. Engaging with fans through social media, live shows, and personal interactions helps you create a loyal fan base. This personal connection can enhance your brand's authenticity and foster a community that supports your work and growth. Brand Identity Independence allows you to define and shape your brand identity. You have the freedom to create a unique image, message, and style that aligns with your artistic vision. This self-directed branding can differentiate you from others in the industry and help you build a distinctive presence. 4. Flexibility and Autonomy Adaptability As an independent artist, you can adapt to changes in the industry and your circumstances. Whether shifting your focus to new projects, adjusting your release strategy, or exploring new revenue streams, independence gives you the agility to respond to evolving opportunities and challenges. Decision-Making Power You are the sole decision-maker in your career as an independent artist. From choosing collaborators to setting release schedules and managing promotional strategies, you have the power to make decisions that align with your vision and goals. This autonomy fosters a sense of ownership and empowerment in your creative journey. 5. Developing Skills and Knowledge Learning Opportunities Being an independent artist involves wearing multiple hats, including those of a manager, marketer, and financial planner. This multifaceted role provides valuable learning experiences and helps you develop a diverse skill set. From understanding the intricacies of digital distribution to mastering self-promotion and networking, you gain knowledge that can enhance your career and personal growth. Networking and Collaboration Independence encourages you to build and nurture your own network of industry professionals, collaborators, and mentors. This proactive approach to networking can open doors to new opportunities, partnerships, and collaborations that might not be available in traditional settings. 6. Long-Term Success and Sustainability Career Longevity Independent artists often enjoy longer career sustainability due to their control over creative and financial aspects. By building a solid foundation and nurturing a dedicated fan base, you can create a lasting impact and maintain relevance over time. Your independence allows you to pivot and adapt to industry changes, contributing to long-term success. Resilience and Growth The journey of an independent artist involves navigating challenges and overcoming obstacles. This process fosters resilience and personal growth, equipping you with the experience and determination needed to thrive in a competitive and ever-changing landscape. Conclusion The importance of being an independent artist lies in the unparalleled freedom, control, and opportunities it offers. From creative expression and financial management to personal branding and career longevity, independence allows you to shape your artistic journey on your terms. Embracing independence not only empowers you to pursue your vision but also equips you with the skills and resilience needed for long-term success. In a world where creative autonomy is increasingly valued, being an independent artist is not just a choice but a powerful path to realizing your artistic potential and achieving your goals.

  • Six Famous Sports Fans

They say that all sports athletes want to be musicians and all musicians dream of being famous sports stars. Some have even tried to bridge the two worlds over the years – with some less than memorable results. Let’s just say that athletes should concentrate on toning their muscles rather than their vocal cords.   But we are not suggesting that these two universes can never meet. Athletes have enough money to follow their favorite bands around the world – and date them in the case of Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift. Musicians and rock stars, on the other hand, have a long history of being very vocal in their support of their favorite teams.   With the NFL and NBA season almost upon us, and baseball being an excellent alternative during the long summer months, we thought we would take a look at some famous names from the world of music who have nailed their colors to the mast and very publicly professed their love and support for a sports team.   Most of these will feature in the daily highlight shows and on any   online sportsbook Illinois  has to offer. Hopefully the team’s athletes won’t try to show their support in the studio anytime soon! Snoop Dogg Snoop’s multiple appearances as an unofficial US Olympic team mascot at the recent games in Paris proved that the legendary rapper will do anything to watch some sports. He is an avid fan of just about any sport you can think of and is regularly spotted wearing the local team’s jersey at his gigs across the world.   If we have to narrow down his allegiances, Snoop has repeatedly shown his love for a number of Los Angeles teams, including the Dodgers, Lakers, and even the USC Trojans. But his strongest affiliation is something a little more leftfield. After watching football with his grandfather as a youngster, Snoop has been a lifelong Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Bruce Dickinson A while ago a common pub quiz question concerned Bruce Dickinson’s many activities away from the stage. The long-time Iron Maiden frontman surprised many fans and non-fans alike by becoming a licensed pilot and has also been involved in a number of other ventures including writing and even brewing beer.   When it comes to sports, soccer is Dickinson’s game but he professes not to support any one team in particular. There was a rumor that he was a Chelsea fan as he owned a house near the stadium – and he once flew the Liverpool team to Italy for an important European game. But he went on record to say that he only hoped he brought the EPL team luck and was not a fan of the team. Eddie Vedder Let’s come back over the Atlantic and investigate the sporting leanings of Pearl Jam singer, Eddie Vedder. Coming up through the Southern California rock scene, it might be expected that Vedder rooted for one of the big LA teams, or even the Padres as he lived in San Diego as a child.   But before Vedder became something on the West Coast, he was just a little kid in Illinois and that is why he is still a huge Chicago Cubs fan to this day. He is well known for singing songs at the game, as well as the National Anthem, and even once got into a brawl with former White Sox pitcher Jack McDowell in a bar in New Orleans. Flea The Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist might have been born in Australia and lived in New York as a young child, but it was when his parents settled in California in his teens that Flea began his love affair with the Los Angeles Lakers. Apparently, he also likes the Rams of the NFL and baseball’s Dodgers.   But it is the basketball court where Flea is most happiest (when he isn’t performing in front of thousands of rock fans, of course). He has held a season ticket since the late 1980s and can regularly be spotted courtside when not on tour, He has even performed a bass-only version of the national anthem before a game and has written songs in honor of a number of famous Lakers. Jon Bon Jovi As a New Jersey native, the leader singer of Bon Jovi should really be either a Giants or Jets fan. But it was after a meeting with legendary New England coach Bill Belichick at a Giants game that Jon Bon Jovi started getting behind the Patriots and he is now a fully-fledged supporter of the Massachusetts-based team.   Bon Jovi is a big football fan and even owned a team in the Arena Football League and   once tried to buy the Buffalo Bills . But it is the Pats that hold the dearest place in his heart. He has performed a number of times in the home stadium and even owns two New England Patriots Super Bowl rings. Elton John  When you are a multi-millionaire rock star as well as a sports fan you should probably put your money where your mouth is – and that is exactly what Elton John has done. A fan of Watford soccer club as child, once Elton had made his first millions, he became chairman and director of the club and ploughed cash into the team.   The small team from the outskirts of London made it to the very top of the English soccer pyramid and Elton has since sold – and then re-bought – the club. His lifelong devotion and financial aid were repaid in 2014 when the club named part of the stadium The Sir Elton John Stand. The legendary singer declared that it was “one of the greatest days of his life”.

  • Step Into Demi Michelle’s Empowering Sophomore Album, "Hear Me Out"

Pittsburgh-based pop artist Demi Michelle is back and better than ever with her bold and heartfelt 8-track sophomore album titled Hear Me Out . From her debut album, Dear Diary , to her award-winning EP, It Is What It Is , Demi has consistently shown her ability to connect with listeners on a profoundly emotional yet fun level. Her music has earned countless recognition and accolades, including multiple nominations at the Josie Music Awards and the ISSA Awards, setting the tone for her new album, Hear Me Out . Michelle reflects on the project, “ For most of my life, I remained quiet and held back from speaking my mind about certain topics and experiences I’ve had. Now, I’m in a place where I feel confident and ready to use my voice through my music. ” Kicking off the album is the intro track “I’m Introverted, So What?,” a declaration of self-acceptance that sets the tone for what’s to come. The song’s upbeat melody and catchy lyrics celebrate individuality and how it's totally fine to seek the corner in a crowded room. It's an engaging anthem for anyone who's ever felt misunderstood. Track two, “Passive Aggressive,” dives into the complexities of young relationships and the frustrations that come with it. With its driving rhythm and biting lyrics, the song captures the tension of unspoken words and unresolved emotions. This spicy and blunt track received a nomination for Songwriter Achievement at the Josie Music Awards, and it continues making waves today. The third track, “Quiet,” offers a more introspective moment on the album. Here, Demi explores the power and necessity of finding peace amidst the chaos of life. The soothing instrumentals paired with Demi’s gentle vocals create a serene atmosphere, inviting listeners to pause and reflect on the power of silence and the impact you can have without making a sound. On the album's midway point with track four, “Make Time," this song brings a refreshing reminder of the importance of prioritizing what truly matters. The song’s upbeat tempo and honest lyrics make it a standout track, and Demi's words are deeply relatable. It's a classic case of "If they wanted to, they would," as she sings, "If you really cared, you'd make time." Track five, “Rain on My Parade,” is where Demi’s fearless honesty shines brightest. This track confronts the negativity and doubt that others project, turning it into a powerful statement of resilience that she won't be taken down. The energetic beat and bold lyrics are incredibly empowering, inviting the haters to do their worst while Demi soars above. “Future of Yesterday” continues the theme of reflection as Demi looks back on the past to make sense of the present. The song’s thoughtful lyrics and nostalgic melody create a bittersweet tone, offering an emotional and intimate look at how far she has come as an artist and a human. She makes crucial realizations that she's living the life she wishes to live, emphasizing the importance of gratitude with each day. What feels like the opening of a cinematic fairytale is "Kind Heart," a finalist for USA Female Single of the Year at the ISSA Awards. It's a tender flute ballad that highlights Demi’s softer side, accompanied by delicate piano and her heartfelt lyrics. She realizes that being the bigger person isn't always sunshine and rainbows—it's a journey that only the strongest can navigate. Landing on the album's eighth and outro track, “Kaleidoscope,” we're met with a vibrant and colorful listening experience that brings all the themes of the album together. With its uplifting feel and message about keeping hope for a brighter day, Demi reflects on the shades of feelings she endures while acknowledging that life is a kaleidoscope, and we're made to embrace it. Do yourself a favor and take a listen to Demi Michelle’s inspiring new album, Hear Me Out , now available on all digital streaming platforms. Your new album, Hear Me Out , is incredibly empowering. What inspired you to create this deeply personal and honest project? I experienced a major evolution from writing my debut album, Dear Diary , and award-winning EP, It Is What It Is. B ecause of that, I’m finally in a place where I feel comfortable being unapologetically honest in my music. The eight songs on Hear Me Out  spotlight themes and topics that can’t be found in any of my other music. I made a conscious decision to take this project in a totally new direction and wanted the thread of empowerment to be woven through the lyrics. Hear Me Out  is bold, fierce, and direct, each song delivering a clear message, from acknowledging how there’s power in silence to recognizing the challenges that come along with being a kind person. I’m definitely showing a new side of myself on the album, and I’ve never felt more ready to share the Hear Me Out  chapter with my Butterflies. Each track on Hear Me Out carries its own unique message. How did you choose the themes for each song, considering they had to relate to the album's core concept? The first song I wrote for the album was “Quiet,” and the lyric, “I don’t have to use my voice for you to hear me out,” gave me a whole concept idea for my new album. Once I had the title, I began reflecting on my life and recent experiences that I have kept to myself. Various emotions, situations, and realizations bubbled to the surface, and I plunged into the songwriting process with the intent of opening up about things I never had before. The core themes of the songs can be heard in the lyrics, almost like direct statements: I’m introverted, so what? There’s a name for indirectly killing my vibe. Why don’t you go and look it up? It’s passive-aggressive. I’m loudest when I’m quiet. If you really cared, you’d make time the way that I make time for you. You can’t rain on my parade. There’s fire in my veins. Don’t wish away your future of yesterday. I t ’s kinda hard having a kind heart. Every day is made up of different colors ‘cause life’s a kaleidoscope. The tracklist shows my acceptance of who I am as an introvert, the way I spoke up about toxic situations, deep reflection on kindness and being present, and finally, the realization that life is like a kaleidoscope, ever-changing. Also, fun fact: the first lyric on the album is “I love butterflies, but I’m not the social kind,” and the last track is “Kaleidoscope,” which is what a group of butterflies is called. Since butterflies are a huge part of my brand, I’m always finding creative ways to draw symbolism into my songwriting journey. “Kind Heart” in Hear Me Out  has already received ample recognition. What was the process like creating this beautiful ballad? “Kind Heart” is one of my favorite songs I have ever written and definitely one of the most vulnerable. One day, I was doing a lot of reflecting on the challenges that come along with being kind, and the chorus immediately popped into my head. If it’s true that kindness doesn’t cost a thing, Then why do I feel like I’ve spent everything? They say being nice goes a long way, But a thousand miles wouldn’t change how it’s kinda hard having a kind heart. After I wrote the song, I took a lot of time to compose the piano accompaniment. With my classical music background, it was important for me to capture the song’s emotion in the accompaniment. When I was recording in the studio, I kept playing it until I got it exactly how I wanted in one take. I have to give a huge shoutout to my wonderful flutist, Anna O’Malley. As soon as I recorded the piano and vocals for “Kind Heart,” I knew I wanted flute on the song. Anna brought her magic to the ballad, and I truly can’t thank her enough for being part of “Kind Heart.” I’m so glad I released “Kind Heart” as the album’s lead single. This is a very special one to me, and it will always be a favorite. How does Hear Me Out  reflect your growth as an artist since your debut album, Dear Diary ? As I mentioned earlier, I have experienced a huge evolution. When I wrote and recorded Dear Diary , I was new to songwriting and being an artist. For that reason, there was a self-discovery aspect to the album. I was also dealing with a lot of insecurities and difficult emotions at the time, so Dear Diary  is a very reflective and introspective project. Hear Me Out  couldn’t be more polar opposite. I have grown so much as a songwriter, artist, and person since my debut days. Since I write authentically, my new music naturally reflects my evolution. Over the years, I have developed my skills as a songwriter, discovered my sound, learned production alongside my amazing producer, Bob McCutcheon, and, most importantly, became more confident in myself as a whole. I’ll always love Dear Diary , though, because without that album, I wouldn’t have been able to get to where I am now. What do you hope your listeners take away from Hear Me Out ? What emotions or thoughts do you want to leave them with? I would love my Butterflies to feel empowered to use their voices. Everyone deserves to be heard and understood, and it would be incredible if my choice to speak my mind on the album inspires others to do the same. I kept things bottled up for a long time, but now, I’m turning to my music to share my story. We all have a voice for a reason, and it takes strength and courage to use it fully. Now that I have used mine on this album, there’s no going back.

He's successfully created a sound that feels timeless and timely, surely impacting today’s Blues scene and beyond. Dive into the future of blues with Sonny Gullage's debut 12-track album, Go Be Free, now available on all digital streaming platforms. Welcome to Buzz, Sonny! We're head over heels for the depth and energy of your debut album, Go Be Free . How does it feel to release your debut album with such a rich musical heritage behind you? I feel truly honored. I remember growing up in music, looking up to great musicians all around New Orleans and thinking, “One day, that’s gonna be me. One day, I’ll be getting on the plane in New Orleans and getting off the plane in Brazil. One day, they’ll write about me and ask me questions.” It was a big dream for the youngest of a family full of musicians. But I remember asking my dad, “Can I go with you?” And before crossing the terminal gate, he’d say, “One day, you’ll be going for yourself.” Now I look back and think of my journey and how I got here, and I have the opportunity to put it into an album with so much of who I am. It’s a fantastic feeling. How did you approach balancing traditional blues with modern sounds throughout the recording process for Go Be Free ? I have to say that I really looked into who I am. I’m what some may call an “old soul.” I love the way that music from the past feels. From the moment it hits my ears to the moment I’m dancing and singing along, I love the feeling it gives me. I also find a unique quality in modern sounds. We say phrases and little quips that really make modern music special in its own way. So I took the knowledge of the people who have taught me and the experience of musicians who’ve come before me and mixed it with the feeling being 25 in 2024. I tried to write with the expression that came in the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s, while still giving a modern performance of it. Can you tell us more about your collaboration with Kingfish and what it was like working together for his feature on Go Be Free? Kingfish and I collaborated through our mutual producer, co-writer, and friend, Tom Hambridge. Tom and I were in Nashville writing “Worried About The Young,” The topic for this upcoming album was “Who would the feature be?” So we said, “Wouldn’t it be crazy if we had Kingfish on this song? I mean, he’s the same age as me, and he’s amazing and has this high energy in his sound!” That’s when Tom Hambridge turned to me and said, “Well, I work with Kingfish. I produced and wrote on his last few albums. I can ask if he’d be interested.” And from there, one night, I went on Instagram and saw Tom Hambridge’s story captioned, “Just recorded with Kingfish in New Orleans!” I ran to my dad and said, “I think Kingfish just recorded on Worried About the Young.” Sure enough, we got an email the next day saying, “Here’s Kingfish’s tracks on Worried! I hope you love them!” And they were AMAZING! It was a good feeling to know that not only did Kingfish take the time to hear the song, but he acknowledged that it was worth being a part of, and this was happening while he was touring and doing all of these major promotions with Fender and Jack Daniels. He took that time to put his touch on my song. That was special. On a more personal note, which song from Go Be Free is your favorite and why? I think my favorite song is “I’ve Been There.” I remember trying to find an approach to singing this one, and I thought of my grandfather. I thought of all of the conversations we’ve had over the years. I thought of his favorite thing to tell me, “Just keep living. I never thought I’d reach the age where I couldn’t do the things I wanted to do. But you learn in time. Just keep living.” That made the song mean even more to me, and when I hear it, I get a little reminder of his prerogative. What do you want listeners to experience when hitting play on Go Be Free ? What do you want them to feel? I want listeners to feel the blues. I don’t just mean the downs of life. Not “My baby left me” or “I just can’t catch a break.” I want them to feel EVERY emotion life has to offer. I want them to feel the urge to run and dance and smile and laugh. I want each song to remind everyone who hears it that they’re still here, no matter how hard life may get. There’s still a world of feelings and experiences to look forward to. On all 12 tracks, I tried to give a different experience that is like a guide to living. Through the happiness, sadness, anger, love, and crazy ways that life comes at you, these songs work like a soundtrack. If even one person feels that way, I think I’ll consider my job done well. Your new single, "Malignant Lover," is incredibly groovy. Can you share what inspired this personal yet danceable tune? Hey guys, thanks so much for having me on! Lover originally started as a challenge to myself, a challenge to make something super fun and groovy, which would undeniably expand my sound. I instantly fell in love with this track and it was all I worked on for nearly a month! I’m super happy with the way it turned out and I’m sure everyone who listens will love it as well. Your lyrics in "Malignant Lover" are quite relatable. Can you talk about your songwriting process for this track and what message you wanted to get across? Some people may not agree with this, but I believe a great song starts with a bassline that defines its character. I love starting this way because it gets me jamming and in the mindset to create right from the jump! From there, it's mostly downhill, focusing on making good musical decisions and choosing sounds that work well together. I try not to overthink my lyrics too much once I’m in a zone and just allow my voice to be another instrument in the mix. Your music has a distinct blend of old-school funk and modern R&B. How do you balance these influences to create your unique sound, especially for "Malignant Lover"? I’m inspired by a number of artists and life experiences. Because of that, I think these musical elements have become a part of who I am over time, and they tend to flow out of me. My dad exposed me to lots of old-school funk staples. Parliament, The Bee Gees, Bootsy Collins, etc. And like most kids, R&B found its way into my heart and I was hooked. I try to let the best of these elements shine through my music, especially in my production. Can you describe the mood or atmosphere you aimed to capture in the clean production for "Malignant Lover"? Fun was the name of the game with this track from the very beginning. When working with Kevin “MasterMind” Wilson, who directed the music video for Malignant Lover, there was a huge focus on making sure we delivered the track in a way that people could enjoy over and over again. I think we definitely achieved that goal!  What do you hope listene rs feel after hearing "Malignant Lover"? How do you want the song to impact them? When you really dig into the lyrics of the song, you realize that its message applies to so many situations and life experiences. Overall, I just want people to know that even when life doesn't seem to be going your way, there’s always time to have a little fun and maybe even bust a move!

  • Tony Newbury Unpacks His New Release “Route 9”

Welcome to Buzz, Tony Newbury! We loved “Route 9;” that was a dope way to introduce your “No More Cigarettes” project. We wanted to ask, what made you decide to open “No More Cigarettes” with this track? Sup, yo! I feel like my song ROUTE 9 really puts you in the seat of the artist in the album. It’s like every event starts off with being in the car, driving around to get after it. Feeling tired heading somewhere after work and getting home at 3 a.m., it’s supposed to get you ready to grind. What was the inspiration behind this release? The past year or two of my life has been pretty hectic. I’ve had to walk away from some people I truly love. I’ve also met some pretty awesome people in my life. NO MORE CIGARETTES is an album for anyone trying to take care of themselves to chase their dreams at full potential. I used to smoke a lot, too, so my boy Jake Nash told me to name the album because he wanted me to stop smoking. What was your first vision for your “No More Cigarettes” project, and what was your favorite part of bringing the vision for this project to life? I didn’t really have a concrete vision, to be honest. I was initially going to make a tape called White Jazz. When I hit my producer, Poetic Junior, that’s what I told him. Then, I spent a month just cranking out songs in my mom's basement last summer. That’s how I got the last five of seven tracks on the tape. I made about 30 songs. But I needed to pick my favorite, which tells the story the universe was pulling out of me. What’s been your favorite part of your music journey so far? My favorite part has been having people tell me I inspire them. That allows me to know I’m properly using the gift God gave me, and I'm trying to keep doing that. What’s next for Tony Newbury, and is there anything you’d like to say to your fans? I have a new album starting to roll out in August. It’s called FOREVER GOOD. Other than that. Just keep going, baby! Forever. Read more about Route 9. Instagram Facebook

  • Porter Block’s Got The Good Vibes Flowing On Their New Release “Groove Goin’ On”

Can you feel this energy? Having been active in the scene for decades, there’s very little NYC-based outfit Porter Block hasn’t seen or done themselves. Having released nine well-acclaimed studio albums over their musical journey, their ability to consistently deliver captivating releases and projects has earned them a loyal following of admiring fans. With the release of their ninth studio album, “Sometimes Sunshine” once again proving that they more than have what it takes to take your breath away, we hope Porter Block will continue their legendary run for a long time. Although they’ve covered many sounds thus far on their prolific run, Porter Block’s latest sonic endeavor is no less impressive. It’s the culmination of the years and years of painstaking work and effort they’ve put into their music, brought to life by brilliant artistic vision and skill. Made in collaboration with legendary songwriter and artist Andy Paley (Jonathan Jerry Lee Lewis), this partnership has breathed even more new life into Porter Block’s sound, keeping their releases fresh and us on the edge of our seats. In a way that’s fitting and more than a little poetic, Porter Block’s new release “Groove Goin’ On” is a smooth, enticing affair that beckons you to the dancefloor with its groovy beats. The instrumental performance feels very surf-rock in a nostalgic way, especially when paired with the imagery of frontman Peter Block and his beautiful female companion driving top down around the town. Paley’s touch is evident, adding a layer of polish that maximizes the potential of the band’s “pocket symphony” and Peter Block’s spunky vocals, elevating the track to new levels. NYC-based rock stalwarts Porter Block continue to show that even after their ninth studio album, they’re getting better and better. Whenever you’re ready to hit the dancefloor, tap in and stream Porter Block’s new release, “Groove Goin’ On”, now on all majour streaming platforms. Welcome to Buzz, Porter Block! We loved “Groove Goin’ On.” Your sound felt so nostalgic but also fresh! We wanted to ask you about this release's creative process. What inspired you? The inspiration for “Groove goin’on” came from our co-writer Andy Paley, who liked the nostalgic nature of its meaning. It feels like an instant attraction between two people, a magnetic connection that sounds very 1960’s. The chorus feels very California sunshine pop, so we added harmonies to the spoken verses. What inspired you to take that initial step to pursue music seriously, and what motivates you to make music now? My musical inspiration came when I was 6 or 7 years old. It started with The Beatles, and although I listen to everything, both old and new, it’s the creative act of writing a song that still draws my attention and glee. Song craft is something I revere, and I am endlessly engaged in trying to write better and more satisfying pop songs. What’s your fondest music-related memory as a group? My fondest musical memory is making some of our early records in studios in New York City that no longer exist. Caleb once managed the biggest studio in New York, and we would often book time at various places to write and record. There’s something about working in a place where others have made iconic recordings that gets the juices flowing. What do you want your fans to feel when they hear your music? I want our listeners to feel satisfied with our songs. Each is a journey or leap of faith into storytelling and musical expression. It should just feel good, and hopefully, there will be enough musical objects and events to keep ears interested and tuned into the vibe and story. What’s next for Porter Block, and is there anything you’d like to say to your fans? To our fans—the few and the proud….like the Marines, thanks for listening and taking the time to play our songs. I hope you enjoy it because we sure do love writing and producing records. Music can be so powerful, particularly today when there is so much distracting our collective attention. We try to make it like a 3-minute fever dream—something you can return to that doesn’t fail to excite or engage your heart and consciousness. Thanks for listening! Instagram
