Billy Mick is a singer-songwriter from Orlando, Florida. Currently working on his debut studio album, Billy has already released five incredible singles this year! After attending Manchester Pride in 2018, he was inspired to write the single, “Flesh and Bone”, an uplifting song with a strong and meaningful message of equality. He was also recently honored to perform at Inspire Orlando and at the Miss GayDays Pageant and at Space Coast Pride.
This year so far has been incredible for Billy Mick, from releasing 5 impressive singles, performing at spectacular events, and now preparing for his debut album release, he is consistently on the rise. Billy is one of our all-time favorite artists because of the sense of community, love, and acceptance in each and every one of his songs. It’s so admirable for an artist to be inspired by something and in turn use their reach to spread that message, especially when that message is something so close to the heart. Billy’s releases this year include “Flesh and Bone”, “Angel, “Just Me”, No Love Will Ever Do”, “Just B.”, and coming very soon “I Want To Melt”. Billy Mick hypnotizes audiences with not only his lyrical depth but his energetic dance beats and his vocal range to die for. His vocals sound like a dream crossover of Bob Seger’s grit and Cher’s explosive tone and we’re absolutely blown away every time. Can’t wait to catch a live show! Welcome back to BuzzMusic Billy Mick! It’s such a pleasure to be catching up with you! You’ve had an impressive year, to say the least. What accomplishment are you most proud of thus far?
Being asked to perform at GayDays in Orlando and Space Coast Pride in Melbourne were certainly this year's crowning achievements for me! My ultimate goal is to perform at Pride events around the world, so to be asked to perform at these events with only a few songs released was the best feeling ever!
One of our favorite tracks is “Just B.”! Can you tell us the inspiration behind this track?
I was about halfway through recording my album and was just having a “WTF am I doing?” kind of day. I wasn’t sure if I was doing all this the right way; everyone was loving “Flesh and Bone” and I was doubting the rest of the songs. So I took a step back, took a deep breath, and the song just came to me! I started singing lyrics and I knew right then that “Just B.” had to be the title track for my first album!
With your individual sound now established, how do you set yourself apart from other pop artists today?
I just keep following my gut and moving forward! I’m not necessarily trying to stand out or be different from other artists, I’m just trying to be me.
You seem to be an artist that puts more thought into their lyrics than most. What can you tell us about the lyrical depth within “Angel”?
I have been writing songs since I was a kid, but it wasn't until more recently that I truly found my voice and really knew what I wanted to say. A lot of what I was writing early on were other people’s stories. I wrote “Angel” about 30 years ago and it was really more of a fantasy of love at first sight. The song had eventually gone by the wayside, but when my husband, Brian, and I met it truly was love at first sight! With this album being so completely true to me and my life, I felt "Angel" became relevant once again and necessary to be a part of my first album.
We loved the personal music video for “Flesh and Bone”! Can we expect a new music video in the near future? If so which track would you choose to match visuals to?
I had an amazing time producing my video for “Angel” with a very talented and wonderful group of friends. In addition, I have put together a montage video for “Just B.” - eventually, I would like to do an actual video for the song. And, I would really love to do one for “No Love Will Ever Do” - I have this idea for a kinda 70’s variety show video with rain curtains, special guests, and maybe even some muppets singing backup!
Thank you so much for talking with us about your new projects and creative process. What can you tell us about your upcoming releases? We can’t wait to hear more from you.
Thank you for the opportunity to share! I am humbled by all of the support from friends, family, and fans! I have a new track coming out at the end of November entitled "I Want to Melt" inspired by love. I am very excited about this one! I am looking at releasing the entire album after the first of the year and I am already working on music for the next album! Just gonna keep on keeping on!
