Hey Cara! Welcome to BuzzMusic! How did you get started writing music? What made you want to record it and take it more seriously?
I’ve always loved writing. I used to write poetry all the time but I never thought about writing music. I started playing the guitar when I was 16 and after I learned a few chords, I started playing around with the idea of writing my own song. Taylor Swift was a huge influence for me. I went to her 1989 concert and the next day I came home and sat at my desk until I had written my first song. I started showing it to people and I never expected to get the feed back I did. People started telling me I was good and that made me want to take the next step and start recording.
We love your song “Better Off”! Can you tell us more about the meaning of the lyrics? What inspired this song?
The ideas for my songs come from things that have actually taken place in my life. I just finished my first year of college and I had a lot of new and different experiences. The idea for “Better Off” came from an experience that I had with a guy. The lyrics were inspired by the fact that I liked him, he lead me on, and then it was over. Even when it was over, I couldn’t let go and the meaning of the song is that even though he was bad for me, I still liked him and wanted him in my life, even if that meant just as friends.
How do you feed your passion for music everyday?
I write almost every day. Most of what I write doesn’t get put into my songs, but every once in a while I stumble upon the perfect lyric. I also play my guitar every day and create new and different Melody’s. I like to experiment with different sounds on garage band as well. Writing music is a process. It doesn’t just come to you in one day, it takes time. I get a lot of good thoughts and ideas in the middle of the night and I’ll wake up and jot them down so I’ll remember them in the morning.
What do you hope your listeners take away from your songs?
When I listen to other artists music, I really enjoy songs that I connect with. Often times, I find that their lyrics become really meaningful to me as I have had similar experiences. I want my listeners to feel a connection that will make the song more meaningful to them.
Do you have any upcoming shows, events or releases you want to talk about?
For right now, I have no upcoming events. I hope to start performing more in the near future. I’m working on a lot of new music and I am hoping to get it out there really soon. For now, I just hope that my listeners will continue to support me and “Better Off” as my dream is to hear it on the radio one day!
