From starting on YouTube posting covers and original songs, Capri Wagner has come a long way with her songwriting and talent as a musician. She loves to connect with her listeners using social media and hopes to change the world for the better using her passion for music.

After releasing a physical EP at 16, Capri Wagner recently broke into the streaming world in 2021, with her newest single being “My Angel”.

A warm welcome to BuzzMusic Capri Wagner, and thank you for sharing your beautiful song "My Angel" with us. Did you find it challenging at all to write about such a personal subject?

I remember at my dad's services. Numerous people came up to me saying that they knew in their hearts I was eventually, in time, going to write a song for my dad. I remember hearing that and thinking to myself. This is probably going to be in a year when I feel ready to do this. However, a couple of weeks passed, and ideas came to my mind naturally. I would immediately write down my ideas or record myself singing how I wanted it to sound using the voice memos app on my phone. I knew I wanted to get in the studio as soon as possible so that I could release this on my birthday. I didn't want to hold on to this song for long because I'm here now, and I believe there's no better time than now with anything you do. I chose to release it on my birthday to always have a special connection with my dad as it will now also be the song's anniversary release day too.

How do you feel now that this song is available to the world?

I just teared up reading this question. How do I feel now that this song is available to the world? It feels like I lifted a lot of weight off my chest. I know there are people out there struggling with the same experience, and I want to be that person that can comfort them through a spiritual pop song like this one. I want to relate with my fans as much as I can on all levels. This is one of them, which also stands as a reminder for them to not forget what their angels have taught them in life and that they are watching over them moving forward, although they cannot physically be present with them anymore. I've had many people reach out to me, saying how much they can relate and that listening to my song makes them feel not alone in what they are going through.

What was the production process like for "My Angel?" Did you have an idea of what the song should sound like while writing it?

I wrote it weeks after he passed as ideas came naturally, finished it the day before I got in the studio to record it, and then released it on my birthday. The production process was incredible but also very emotional. I did know before going to the studio how I wanted it to sound because I did create the melody in addition to the words. I've been close to my producer for many years, and he knew my dad. My producer, Michael Birchard from Mikey B Media, helped my song come to life by adding sounds I wanted and suggested, in addition to his creative production overall. He did an amazing job producing this song, and I'm thankful to have him as my producer.

Though "My Angel" is deeply personal to you, it is still incredibly touching from an outside perspective. What do you hope listeners take away from this song?

I wanted to make sure my song was not only personal to my life but also relatable for anyone else who is grieving a loved one. So far, I can see that listeners are taking away from this song what I had hoped and intended it to be for. To help those in a spiritual way through music and to know that they are not alone as they go on in life without one or more of their loved ones who have passed away. As more listeners hear my song, I hope they can say the same.

How has your long history with music influenced you as a singer/songwriter? How do you feel you have changed over the years? What's next for you?

My mom has told me that while she was pregnant with me, she would blast music on the radio as she was working out. I joke with her, saying I've been influenced since I was in the womb, hahaha. Overall, I've been attached to music for as long as I can remember. I started singing in front of my family when I was one and a half years old, and I started songwriting when I was 7. I then started teaching myself instruments, mainly the guitar, when I was about 15. I started performing publicly in middle school and have continued to do so ever since that. I also started posting YouTube videos of me singing around that time. A lot of the music that I write comes naturally to me, even without playing an instrument or listening to a beat first. I write a lot of my songs first prior to hearing a beat, but I do like writing to beats as well. Over the years, I have changed more so with learning experiences, educating myself about the music industry and what I should be doing in order to help connect with more people. I also think my creative process is bettering itself as I am getting older and experiencing new things. I love connecting with others, and I want to keep doing that in more ways than one. As for what's next for me, we will see what the future brings. I do have so many songs that I want to record and release. I'm excited for what's to come and to release an EP, which I am currently working on. Stay tuned!
