Carolyn Thomas is a talented pop singer/songwriter from Perth, Australia. Carolyn writes contemporary music that is largely influenced by rock and soul. For the first time ever, Carolyn is collaborating on an electronic pop single called “Cold” with UK-based producer Coskun. The vocals were written and recorded by Carolyn afterwards. The song is an exploration of the questions and feelings surrounding an unresolved breakup and does so with a catchy hook and upbeat track.
“Cold” starts off feeling impressively familiar and skillfully crafted, but begins to venture off into its own creatively unique arena. Complete with an emotional concept and a hard-hitting structure, these elements all help bring through more of that classic balance between artistry and professionalism. “Cold” cascades around you as this stunning wave of carefully selected synths and moments, progressing quickly from smooth and dreamlike to rhythmically engaging. “Cold” successfully envelops its audience for the full extent of its lifespan, based on the ups and downs that we all experience after a breakup makes this track highly relatable. Carolyn’s vocals are crisp and flawless, she adds an impressive and refreshing sound to an incredibly produced hit. The track concludes with a melt-your-face-off high note from Carolyn to further showcase her ability and dominance as a vocalist. We love this collaboration of Carolyn Thomas and Coskun and can’t wait to hear more.
I highly recommend you check out “Cold” here and read more with Carolyn below.
Welcome to BuzzMusic Carolyn Thomas! Your voice is so beautiful and powerful! Have you had any professional training?
Thanks so much! Yes I actually studied as Bachelor of Performance at the Western Australian academy of performing arts, specialising in contemporary music.
“Cold” is so raw and honest, what emotions did you have to channel when writing the lyrics?
Cold is definitely a very personal song for me and comes from a place of real heartbreak. I usually write songs that a more like stories and aren’t so personal, so it was both refreshing and also quite intimidating to write a song that actually portrayed real events and feelings in my life. The emotions in this song are mostly hurt and pain from a heartbreak, but there’s also a lot of confusion and frustration in there about how it ended and the unanswered questions that go along with that.
What do you hope your listeners take away from this song?
I hope that listeners will be able to know that if they’re going through something similar, that they are not alone and that they can also move on in time.
Is this the first time you’ve collaborated with Coskun? What future collaborations can we expect from you?
This is the first time Coskun and I have worked together, and it’s been such a great experience. We’re definitely hoping to keep working together on some different tracks, possibly with more of an acoustic vibe, so stay tuned!
What’s next for you through the end of 2019?
I’m hoping to release a solo single toward the end of the year and then begin work towards my next EP. I’m also hoping to launch some new projects here in Perth and I will be doing some more performances around Perth. I’m also hoping to keep seeing COLD do well and hopefully get it out there to even more people.
