The Ontario native moves forward one step at a time in a powerful tribute to her dear friend Aaron Carter.
Sometimes, we forget how fleeting human life is. People come into our lives, change them forever, then disappear. Appreciating the ones close to you as much as possible while they’re still here is essential. For Danica Bucci, although it would’ve been entirely understandable to grieve indefinitely, she decided to celebrate her friend’s life instead. “This One’s For You” is a testament to Bucci’s resilience, positive outlook, and the beauty of friendship and human life.
Danica Bucci was introduced to music early through dance and a love of performing onstage. Hailing from Ontario, the province of opportunity, the budding songstress was determined to master her craft and improve her skills. She started taking voice lessons and began participating in voice and singing competitions soon after. Displaying a level of passion that an unbridled love for music could only explain, she would later teach herself how to play the piano and start writing her songs and music. Whenever Danica Bucci performs, you can tell she loves what she does.
Danica was first introduced to Aaron Carter by a former dance instructor who became his choreographer. Carter and Bucci quickly became friends, frequently working and collaborating on music. He was a great friend but an ever greater person. “This One’s For You” is dedicated to him and the precious friendship he and Bucci shared.
Over soft, gentle piano-backed instrumentals, Bucci pours her heart out in a beautiful tribute to his life and her resolve to live the best she can, keeping his memory by her side. Although on lines like “It hurts thinking bout' it / I hate that it's true,” Bucci’s pain and heartbreak are evident, lines like “But with every breath I take I hope you know / I'm always taking two / And this one's for you” signify that even as she keeps Carter’s memories close, she’ll keep breathing and moving forward.
Danica Bucci’s “This One’s For You” is a touching tribute to the beauty of friendship and human life. Even if those we care about may not be here anymore, the best thing we can do for their memories is to cherish our good times and use them to live our lives to the fullest. Whenever you need a beautiful piece of new music, tap in and stream “This One’s For You,” available now on all major streaming platforms.
Welcome to BuzzMusic, Danica. Wow. We were tearing up listening to this, “This One’s For You” was such a touching and beautiful tribute to Aaron, and we think it’s so sweet that you decided to celebrate his life like this. We want to ask, what does it mean to you to be able to release this song?
Hi, thank you so much. I’m glad it moved you. In all honesty, releasing this song is bittersweet. The reason and inspiration behind writing, recording and releasing this song are one I wish were not true, as I had to lose a friend. It is a way for me not to let Aaron’s passing be done in vain. I want to use his life and experiences as a way of helping others while mourning him in my way. He and I bonded over music, and there are many songs he and I collaborated on, so this is my way of honouring him the best way I know how. I know he would be so proud and flattered that I wrote a heartfelt song for him.
What would it be if you wanted your listeners to take one thing away from this song?
While this song is inspired by my friend Aaron, it is for anyone who has lost someone. It provides some timeline of the many stages of grief one can experience after losing someone. We tend to have many questions, experience multiple emotions, and many varying thoughts and feelings come into our heads. I wanted to give his loved ones and fans a song for them to feel those feelings along with me, and I wanted those who didn’t know him very well, to get a glimpse into what his and my relationship were like.
I was blessed to know the true, best version of him, and I wanted to share a little bit of that with everyone. With all that being said, another important thing that I want listeners to take away from this song is the fact that I support good mental health in our youth significantly, and I recognize the dire need for resources in helping to achieve that. Upon releasing “This One’s For You,” I donated a portion of the song’s proceeds to On Our Sleeves and YMHC (Youth Mental Health Canada) to help make a positive impact and raise awareness for these organizations. Both organizations work to break stigmas around children’s mental health, and both organizations work to provide resources, support and funding to people with chronic mental health disabilities. I have created a legacy page in honour of the life and legacy of Aaron Carter, and I encourage everyone to visit the links in my bio to listen to the song and donate that way or go to the sites and make a separate donation. I appreciate everyone who has listened and donated so far.
What motivates you to make music?
I have always had a love for music. I love performing, and I love connecting with people and speaking to them through words and melodies. The melodies are what I’ve been able to move people with, and I speak best to others through my lyrics. I have always been told that I make people cry with the way I sing and the way I put words into feelings, and I love when people tell me things like that because it means that others get me and that how I feel is how a lot of others feel. It is very encouraging and refreshing when you find people who are on the same page as you sometimes, and I also love how sometimes my words and the way I put things into perspective have helped inspire others to feel something they maybe haven’t felt before or have always been unsure about feeling.
What do you want your fans to feel when they listen to your music?
I want my fans to feel my heart and soul and all of the genuine emotions and feelings that I felt at the time that I was creating the song they were listening to. I want them to hear the song and think about what I experienced to get to the point of writing and recording that song, and I also want them to feel the overall message that I put into every piece. I also want them to find their own message in my songs, which applies to what they have gone through or are going through, and I also want them to feel how the songs make them feel.
What’s next for you? Do you have any big plans for the rest of 2023?
I hope to continue to bring awareness and assistance to mental health organizations, especially the youth mental health organizations, because I am passionate about helping children recognize at a younger age what could be making them feel a certain way. I want them to feel that they have a way to properly express how they feel so that they can convey those feelings to people who can help them if needed. I want them to know that they are not alone and that someone will always be there to listen to their valid thoughts and feelings. I also hope to release lots more music, release my merchandise, and surprise my fans with more things I incorporate into my art!
