Fan Favorite Lightweight Literate Sheds Light On His New Album “LLNOTCOOLJ”

Writer: BUZZ LABUZZ LA

Lightweight Literate is a naturally talented artist born and raised in Yuba City, California. Lightweight Literate was fortunate enough to have an upbringing full of family, friends, support, and opportunity, contrary to the average rapper. While many artists have a sense of pride for the struggle they endured, Lightweight Literate focuses on the positives of being brought up in an ideal family.

Lightweight Literate has been active in the hip-hop music scene for a few years now. He’s garnered himself an impressive 26k monthly listeners on Spotify and his brand new music video for his single “LLNOTCOOLJ” has amassed more than 12k views on Youtube alone. “LLNOTCOOLJ” also serves as the title of Lightweight Literates third full-length mixtape, released June of 2019. The album features 11-tracks of melodic verses, hard-hitting bars, and Lightweight Literates notably contagious sound. Equipped with late-night bangers like “Beast Side”, tracks that feature heavier subject matter like “Deputy”, and completely introspective thought-provoking tracks like “Old Mind” the album showcases Lightweight Literates extreme versatility and skill as a well-rounded artist. He brings character, grit, and authentic confidence back into the music scene and it’s exactly what hip-hop needs. I highly recommend you become acquainted with Lightweight Literate’s music and keep up with him for future releases!

Welcome back to BuzzMusic Lightweight Literate! It’s such a pleasure to be chatting with you again. You seem to be an artist that puts a substantial amount of thought into your lyrics! Who/what has inspired you to be the artist you are today?

I draw inspiration from everything. I get inspired by artists who have an amount of work in their catalog that baffles me. I’m talking like 250- 300 songs, shows incredible discipline. I am also working on optimizing my music in every way, so I’m inspired automatically by trying to outdo my old work.

"LLNOTCOOLJ" is the perfect track to open up your recent album. Where did you draw inspiration for this particular track? Can you tell us all about the sultry new music video?

This track’s hook literally just came from the title I had, thankfully the melody came through for me and the verses are easy to come by. MogelMinded productions hooked it up with the idea that it just be a “flexful” video. Money and girls. I’m a rapper ain’t I.

“Old Mind” seems like a deeply personal track. Is vulnerability something your fans can always expect from your music? Can you tell us more about this particular song?

I give a lot (probably too much) of my personal life out in songs. So there will forever be a vulnerable aspect. Old mind is definitely one of the more emotional tracks for me. It’s about trusting people that you come into contact with. Starting anew with people you don’t know and not being jaded and lumping them in with the people that hurt you in the past.

We know that you're a lover of integrating a variety of elements in your music. Would you ever incorporate contrasting genres into your music, or do you think it would ruin the type of sound you're attempting to reach?

I don’t think I’m trying to reach a specific sound. That whole find your sound thing is BS to me, it always made me feel like I was copying others unless I sound like an alien. You hear a lot of artists in the past in me, but I bring my own twist. My sound is a bunch of different sounds. With that being said I might fuck around and go country next album.

Thank you so much for chatting with us. What's the next move for you artistically? Are you playing any shows in the near future to further promote "LLNOTCOOLJ"?

A collab Tape with about 6-7 tracks and my fourth full-length mixtape. No shows currently, I’ve been in the dungeon working on creating more.
