From Portimāo, Portugal, expressive pianist and composer Fábio Vieira blesses our ears with his big return to the piano in his newest single, "Where I Belong."
The 35-year-old artist began playing piano with his grandfather at five years old, only playing by ear and trying to reproduce songs on the radio. He went on to play at school events but stopped from 2004 to 2020. It wasn't until his grandfather passed in 2020 that he decided to buy a piano and create his favorite style of music, classical modern and melancholic.
In honor of his late grandfather, Fábio Vieira believes that being in front of the piano is where he belongs; a brief explanation of the title of his latest single, "Where I Belong." Vieira explained how he recorded this song while living in an apartment where he had to play "really softly and gently, and the result reflects in my music."

Welcome to BuzzMusic, Fábio Vieira. You've genuinely moved us with your story and how it reflects in your recent single, "Where I Belong." When did you feel ready and inspired to create this piece? How long did it take to complete?
"Where I Belong" is a piece of music that tends to be different from what I usually play. It's a happy, hopeful, and bright melody that reflects what I wanted to transmit to my public. I wanted my first music on the streaming platforms to be something that can make you smile, something that says: 'I am here, this where I belong.' People around me were always asking: 'Why don't you put your music on Spotify?' till then, I was just a guy that played in his free time melancholic and sad pieces very quietly in my room because that was my favorite thing to do, and I always thought that the digital music platforms were just too big for me, being there among the professionals, the piano geniuses are just so out of my league. But one day, I woke up and I said to myself, 'I am going to do it, but I want my debut single to be something different, something color full, inspiring, so I got myself a big mug of coffee, put my headphones on, closed my eyes, started to play random notes and in 3 hours I composed this song. It was very challenging because it was completely out of my comfort zone, but I did, and the funny thing is that I didn't even edit it in post-production. I didn't want it. What you've heard is exactly what happened in those 3 hours.
What was your creative process like when composing the dynamic melodies in "Where I Belong?" How did you begin making the song and working it up from there?
I tend to listen to myself. I think about past events, happy or sad memories, joyful moments, and things and people that left a mark on my life. I closed my eyes, and at the same time, with those thoughts in my mind, I started to imagine and create a soundtrack in my head that represented what those thoughts were making me feel. So I can say that the piano is the microphone of my soul.
How do you hope to make listeners feel when hearing "Where I Belong?" What did you want them to experience?
I want them to reach the end of the music and say: "Thank you for this journey."
I want them to smile and feel the joy and happiness I want to transmit because that's what I felt when I got here.
What was the most rewarding part about creating "Where I Belong?" What did you take away from the experience?
A feeling of achievement. This is just a small step in the music world, but for me, it means a lot. Thinking about a 4-year-old kid that started to play digital keyboard on his grandfather's lap, hearing songs on the radio and trying to replicate them on the piano, no professional musical formation, self-taught, being here, making music, inspiring people, it's just something incredible.
