Welcome to BuzzMusic, Ginger May! We love your new single, "Me and You." Can you tell us a little about your songwriting process?
That is a pretty hard question. I (Tanya) just have the songs in my head from the beginning. I'd rather say all of my songs are reactions to events that occur in my life. I never write about something that I haven't experienced. Like, for example, "Me and You:" I created in true love. If you are interested how exactly do I write my songs? Well, usually the melody comes first. The best ones come in the shower. I don't know why "Me and You" came to me when I had a pedicure. And when I have time I take my guitar and create the bone of the song. After we create the arrangement with Satoshi Higashida. And go to the studio to practice with the band.
What was the inspiration behind "Me and You"?
As I've mentioned before I only write songs about true events or feelings. And "Me and You" is no exception. Maybe you know that feeling as if you found your soulmate when you are happy together and it feels like you are boozy with this happiness. When I was in that state, the song just came to my head literally from the beginning till the end. I believe "Me and You" is my personal anthem of love. I also would like to mention that there were 2 songs that inspired me most. The first one is KISS "I was made for lovin' you". If you've listened to the song, you've probably noticed some similarities. And the second one is Madonna "Like a prayer". This song really reflects my state of love. I think it's very easy to find references to these songs in our new single
What was the most challenging part about creating this song?
Surprisingly we didn't have any challenges with this song. Creating process went pretty smooth and unexpectedly fast. I believe that is because we all were inspired. Although we spend more time than expected recording the song.
What's the message you'd like people to take away from "Me and You"?
I just hope that people can relate to this song. That would mean they also experienced this awesome feeling of love. And I am very happy for them. It does not often happen that we can find this sort of connection with partners. And if you can that is amazing. Try to save it throw your relationship.
What's next for you?
This song was our first single with Messins Records, the label we are working with since the end of the last year. And currently, we are preparing for recording some new songs. I'm not sure that they will be as positive as "Me and You" but we shall see. What we really are going to do is to keep the same funky genre.
