Welcome to BuzzMusic, Grace Carey-Hill! We loved "ily," we had to ask! What was the inspiration behind this release? Were you drawing from personal experience?

I tend to overthink relationships and their endings. I get caught up in needing closure and the whole messy process that comes with it. I'll spend forever trying to find the perfect way to put everything into words. When we started "ily," it seemed like just saying those three words could sum it all up. But easier said than done, right?

What was your favorite part of the creative process for making this release?

Getting into the groove of songwriting for this release was so special to me. Those spontaneous moments of inspiration that hit when you least expect them. I remember when a melody pops into your head out of nowhere or when the perfect lyrics seamlessly translate all of the entangled thoughts in my head.

Collaborating with Josh Zegan is always another highlight. Bouncing ideas around, experimenting with different sounds, and watching the song evolve into something more significant than the sum of its parts - that collaborative energy is just unbeatable. Plus, seeing the initial spark of an idea grow into a full-fledged track is incredibly rewarding.

What does music mean to you, and what do you think is the most valuable skill for a musician to have?

Music is the only language I genuinely understand; it's how I navigate and comprehend myself and the world around me. It serves as a mirror in a way that words alone often fall short. It provides solace and understanding when the complexities of life become too much to articulate.

In the realm of musicianship, I believe the most valuable skill one can have is the ability to collaborate. Music is a communal art form; the magic often happens when diverse talents and perspectives come together. The exchange of ideas, the fusion of different musical styles, and the collective effort to create something meaningful can lead to compositions that resonate on a profound level.

Also, a musician's willingness to explore, discover, and evolve is crucial. Embracing new genres, experimenting with sounds, and pushing creative boundaries help you grow as an artist and contribute to a deeper understanding of yourself and those around you.

If your audience could take one thing away from your music, what would you want it to be?

I want listeners of my music to find solace and joy in my music. I remember hearing artists like Taylor Swift or Tori Kelly for the first time and thinking, "How did she put everything I felt into words? She sees me." I think moments like that between musician and listener are powerful beyond words. Someone gets you and feels as happy, lost, broken, etc., as you do. I want my music to be the anthem for someone or the thing that makes someone finally say they're worth more. I want them to see a friend in my art.

What's next for Grace Carey-Hill? Can we expect to hear more new music soon, and is there anything you want to say to your fans?

I am building some tour dates for the upcoming year and some new music! I am so excited for what's ahead and grateful for the people who listened to my music. Thank you!
