gymclassheroes. Revisit 2000s New York City Nightlife on New Single “Useless”

Multi-platinum alternative hip-hop group gymclassheroes. are keeping their comeback alive with the release of their latest single, “Useless,” out November 6, 2026. The track offers another preview of the band's forthcoming fifth studio album, bringing frontman Travie McCoy back to the unforgettable nights, friendships, and cultural energy of New York City's Lower East Side during the 2000s.
Inspired by an era before smartphones dominated nightlife, “Useless” reflects on the spontaneous connections and experiences that made downtown Manhattan such an influential creative playground. McCoy revisits familiar spots like Max Fish, Pianos, and Katz's Delicatessen, remembering a time when the best nights weren't documented for social media but experienced in real life.
“There was a romanticism to the Lower East Side that lasted decade after decade, and I was lucky enough to live in the city during one of those eras,” McCoy shares, describing that period as a turning point he'll never forget.
Created alongside Asa Taccone of Electric Guest, “Useless” also helped establish the creative direction for the band's upcoming album. McCoy describes the collaboration as capturing a genuine yet refreshed version of the gymclassheroes. sound, suggesting the group isn't interested in simply recreating its past success.
The release follows “Universal Language,” which marked the band's first new music in 15 years. Their return has also included appearances at Warped Tour and a U.S. co-headlining tour alongside Lupe Fiasco and B.o.B., their first headline run since 2011.
For a group responsible for crossover classics like “Cupid's Chokehold,” “Stereo Hearts,” and “Ass Back Home,” there's something fitting about returning with a song dedicated to the culture that helped shape them. Nostalgia is clearly part of the appeal, but gymclassheroes. appear equally focused on what comes next.
“Useless” is available now on all major streaming platforms, with more music expected from the group's forthcoming fifth studio album.
