Jasmine Matthews Gets Lost In “Reverie”

Jasmine Matthews is set to release her highly anticipated debut studio EP on May 5th, 2023.

The title track of her upcoming EP, 'Reverie,' is a smooth and soulful ode to the beauty of love. The song showcases her unique and refreshing approach to R&B with its lush, jazz-influenced composition supported by stacks of backing vocals, boomy 808s, heavy bass, and a gorgeous piano that perfectly complements Jasmine's voice.

The song was written to recognize how far Jasmine has come to learn to appreciate herself fully, and she wants other people to feel the same way about themselves. She explains, "As much as it's a love letter to someone else, it's also, in a way, a love letter to me." Her introspective and vulnerable lyrics showcase her growth as an artist and a person.

Jasmine's performance on "Reverie" is nothing short of breathtaking. Her vocals are rich and velvety, gliding over the lush instrumental like a warm breeze. The backing vocals add a dreamy quality to the track, and the 808s and bass provide a steady groove that will have you swaying along. The instrumentation, which includes the Rhodes, strings, and brass sections, gives the song a retro feel that perfectly complements Jasmine's smooth vocals.

Jasmine's live performances have garnered attention, as she has been getting comfortable in front of audiences across Victoria. She has supported Eamonn Conor on the Victorian leg of his Table 17 tour (The Gasometer Hotel, The Barwon Club) and was back at the Barwon Club on the lineup for their Boxing Day event and the 'Elifest Fundraiser.' She is comfortable in the big city and the surf coast, tapping into the dreamy, emotionally driven elements of performance and storytelling.

In "Reverie," Jasmine Matthews proves that she is a force to be reckoned with in the R&B genre. Her unique and refreshing approach to R&B and smooth and velvety vocals make for an unforgettable listening experience. Her introspective and vulnerable lyrics showcase her growth as an artist and a person, making the song even more meaningful. Fans of R&B and soul will not want to miss this rising star's debut EP, set for release on May 5th, 2023.

Welcome to BuzzMusic, Jasmine Matthews. Amazing work on letting your soul out on “Reverie.” How did your journey of self-discovery and learning to appreciate yourself fully influence the creation of "Reverie"?

Thank you! The creation of Reverie was a huge milestone for me. Writing as authentically and honestly as possible was of high importance, and for me, this track solidified who I wanted to be as an artist and personally.

Can you speak to the inspiration behind the lush, jazz-influenced composition of "Reverie" and how it reflects your artistic style?

My overall vision for Reverie was to blend smooth jazz and RnB with modern, polished production. That decision was made to reflect my artistic style because my influences stem from early 40’s Ella Fitzgerald to 2012 Frank Ocean, and I wanted to capture the best of both worlds.

The lyrics of "Reverie" evoke a dreamy and emotionally driven quality. Can you discuss the process of crafting those lyrics and how they capture the song's essence?

I wrote Reverie as a way to shift my mindset when it comes to love and relationships. It’s a challenge for me to open up to people intimately; I usually focus on the negative parts or have my guard constantly up. "Reverie" was born because I wanted to change those parts about myself and my thinking.

"Reverie" is the title track of your upcoming EP. How does this song set the tone for the rest of the EP, and what themes or messages can listeners expect to hear throughout the project?

"Reverie" sets the tone for the rest of the EP by encapsulating a dream-like romance. I want listeners to get caught up in the honeymoon phase and be in love with the idea of love before we venture into a more serious, vulnerable tone with the other tracks.

You've been gaining traction as a rising star of RnB, and your debut studio EP is highly anticipated. How does "Reverie" represent your growth and evolution as an artist, and what can fans look forward to from you in the future?

"Reverie" is my debut release. It represents my artistic growth from writing lyrics in my bedroom to actively following my passion for being a performer; I’m so grateful for that. For my next project, fans can look forward to hearing me experiment with new sounds and a shift in the way I tell my stories.
