Welcome to BuzzMusic, Jessy. We truly appreciate such a relatable anthem for our times like "Locked Doors." What inspired you to write about the topic you did?
I wrote Locked Door about the current political state of the US. A lot of people willingly believe those in charge have their best interest at heart and always tell the truth. I wrote this song to tell people not to believe everything they hear and do their own research.
What was the most rewarding part about creating "Locked Door?"
The most rewarding part about writing Locked Door was trying out a different style of music. I like metal music, and Locked Door has metal influences. I am a solo alternative artist, not part of a metal band, so it was amazing how my teacher Alex and I could create a metal-like song without a band. I also combined another music genre, rap, into Locked Door. I’m not a big fan of rap music, but I thought it would be cool to combine rap and metal with Locked Door and have a Linkin Park-like song.
How did you want the production and sonic in "Locked Door" to make listeners feel? What was your goal with "Locked Door" and its overall atmosphere?
Locked Door is not a song to listen to if you want to relax. With the aggressive rap-metal sound, I would consider it more of a workout song or a song for head-banging. The lyrics aren’t gentle, either. In the first verse, I talk about people being zombies with their heads in the sand. Then I mention that they are lambs to the slaughter, falling for the bait. Metal music is known for having intense and brutally honest lyrics, so that was the effect I was going for. I wanted to create a song to make people think and take them out of their comfort zone.
What impact do you hope "Locked Door" has on your audience?
I hope Locked Door makes people think about the world around them more and not take everything at face value. I also hope my song gives people more perspective about how those in power don’t always have citizens' best interests at heart. You see this with dictatorships throughout history, from World War II Germany to Russia. Fortunately, The US is a democracy, but we should be careful not to let power-hungry people try to control us. Freedom is important, and we should defend it.
