Joel Christian Enters a New Era With “HEART RIPPER”

Dark-pop artist Joel Christian is embracing a darker, more theatrical direction with “HEART RIPPER,” a haunting electronic-pop single accompanied by a Halloween-inspired performance music video. Blending gothic aesthetics, emotionally charged storytelling, and infectious synth-pop production, the release marks the beginning of an ambitious new chapter ahead of a completed EP planned for 2027.
“HEART RIPPER” marks Joel Christian’s return following a two-year period of creative development since his previous single, “Enemy.” Collaborating with producer Danny Dignin, the artist explores a more aggressive electronic sound, pairing sinister atmospherics with a commanding vocal performance and an instantly recognizable “RIP RIP RIP” hook.
At its core, the single examines the blurred boundaries between love and emotional destruction, capturing the unsettling realization that something once mistaken for affection can become deeply damaging. Yet beneath its darker themes lies an empowering message about reclaiming personal strength and finding freedom through heartbreak.
What makes “HEART RIPPER” particularly compelling is Joel Christian’s commitment to an experience that goes beyond the music. His Halloween performance video draws on vintage horror cinema, using gothic imagery and theatrical storytelling to sharpen the song’s twisted romantic narrative.
The release also offers an early glimpse into a larger artistic universe Joel Christian has spent the past year developing. With his next EP already completed and its title expected to be announced in 2027, the artist is building toward a cohesive creative identity where music, visuals, and performance are inseparable.
For Joel Christian, “HEART RIPPER” represents more than a musical comeback. It’s an invitation into a world where darkness becomes beautiful, vulnerability becomes strength, and heartbreak becomes an unexpected source of power.
“HEART RIPPER” introduces a noticeably darker chapter in your artistry. What changed creatively during the two years since “Enemy,” and when did you realize this was the direction you wanted to pursue?
Yeah, I feel like my music has always had a visual aspect of darkness to it. With "Enemy," that was about owning my artistic side and really stepping into my identity and being ok with this other side of Joel that I express through my music. I wrote Heart Ripper at one of the lowest points of my life emotionally. I just felt so drained and misunderstood that the only way I could have gotten out of that darkness was through it. The last year or so, I have been really focused on myself.
Heart Ripper was that song for me. I didn't feel like my heart was broken by a specific person or situation; I just felt like it was completely ripped out. I couldn't feel anything. I started doing internal therapy, and I said I am going to write these dark poems, stories of experiences I am going through, and I am going to approach my music differently now. I've never felt more confident within my art, and I had to feel that pain in order to get here.
You collaborated with Danny Dignin to develop the sound of “HEART RIPPER.” What did that creative partnership bring out in you that listeners might not have experienced in your previous releases?
Well, Danny is an incredible producer, writer, artist, and most of all a friend. I sat down with him in October of last year with the idea for Heart Ripper being the first single and played him some of my demos that I had been voice recording on my iPhone to start conceptualizing the storyline for the new album. I probably had over 20+ tracks written, but we narrowed them down.
The creative process was beautiful and so natural. I felt like I could be me, which was rare over the last few years. He was so creatively up for it that we would just meet 3-5 times a week and write and write and write till it felt like it was in a good place. Endless hours of texting, emails, voice notes in order to get where we are now. He's always been so intrigued by the creativity and uniqueness of my art that we couldn't stop making songs together, and I'm so excited because they sound fresh and different but still me.
Your Halloween performance video draws inspiration from vintage horror cinema. What visual elements are you most excited for audiences to experience, and how does the video deepen the song’s narrative?
Well, when we wrote Heart Ripper last year in 2025, I knew I wanted it to come out in October of 2026. October has always been one of my favorite months, and I love everything horror and spooky. I've done several traditional music videos for my past releases like Enemy & Mystery, and I really wanted to do something different.
I sat down with my friends and said, "What if we did a music video, but made it like a Halloween horror performance?" and included some inspiration from classic horror films. Instantly, they said "YES!" I love the video because it captures me as a performer and, most of all, the emotion of the track. The video is simple, with elements of dark gothic noir. I really did it for the fans for Halloween because I love them and wanted something special for the holiday.
You’ve spoken about wanting to build an entire artistic universe around your music. What visual, musical, or storytelling influences are helping shape that world, and what makes it distinctly Joel Christian?
I've always felt my visuals were something that I get super hyper-focused on. When I write songs or lyrics, I see so many visual things. It could be colors, costumes, aesthetics, movie or book inspirations. I am just a visual artist during the entire process. I've always taken inspiration from fantasy, gothic literature, horror, sci-fi, and theatre.
My art, to me, has always been storytelling. I want my fans to hear and see my work and instantly know it's me. I don't really care to be famous or normal, to be honest. I like the mystery and narrative of what my music says to me. It's about being yourself, but also creating a world where you feel more like yourself. That's what makes me Joel Christian. The acceptance and creation of the artist.
With your next EP already completed and its title announcement planned for 2027, how does “HEART RIPPER” set the stage for the larger project, and what aspects of your evolution as an artist are you most excited to reveal?
Heart Ripper sets the tone for the album, but there are still some unexpected tracks on there that I know fans are going to be surprised by. I'm really going to take my time with each storyline I have planned for the records. Heart Ripper was the introduction into the new "realm" that I am creating within the music. I've spent the last year writing and finalizing the EP, and it's such a story that I want the releases to tell the story. So each one is strategically planned to bring the fans excitement and into this new world.
Without giving too much away, it has tons of synths, gothic edges, and most of all a theatrical performance style to each track. There are elements of heartbreak, manipulation, overcoming fear, and most of all finding that power again within yourself to reign your realm and be the powerful person you're born to be! I'm excited for the fans - 2027 will be a fun year!
