Born in Louis Trichardt, South Africa, and now residing in London, hip-hop artist and songwriter Index Dex shows his loyalty in a groovy new single, "Vans Original.”
Index Dex has built a reputation for exploring themes like sexuality, family, and societal norms through his powerful and provocative music. Over the years, he’s shared stages with top UK garage acts and graced festivals like the esteemed Notting Hill Carnival.
With each release, he continues to make his mark by blending hip-hop with diverse cultural influences. Listeners can catch his artistic versatility in his newest single, "Vans Original, merging old-school with modern flairs to create what could be Vans’ next soundtrack.
Expanding on "Vans Original," the track opens with a child's vocal, leading to the smoothest R&B production. As the old-school synths begin sinking in, Index Dex bites his teeth into the track with sharp, conceptual bars praising the shoes that make him light on his feet. While he's sweetening our speakers with his irresistible flow, the tender production keeps the vibes high and our attention locked in.
We love the fun energy Index Dex brings to "Vans Original." His ability to mix intricate wordplay with a laidback sound ensures that the track resonates with listeners from all 'walks' of life—no matter what kicks they wear. But one thing's for sure. When Dex is sporting his Vans, he's as confident as ever, and he ain't stressin' about you.

Welcome to Buzz, Index Dex! We’re loving the good vibes in your latest single, "Vans Original." What inspired you to create this track?
The song wrote itself. The hook says, "I wear Vans because they are light on my feet." When I’m sleeping and walking, it’s like a Van driving me to my dreams. I wear Vans to work, and work is paying for my dreams. I'm going for my dreams in style with a pair of Vans. Plus, they are just the coolest brand ever. Anyone can wear them no matter what.
The hype you've created around "Vans Original" is pretty wild. What’s the story behind the song? Does the brand hold any personal significance for you?
I like the brand because of its creativity and inclusiveness. Not a lot of brands are totally inclusive, from rich to poor or black to white. You can be into anything and still wear a cool pair of Vans, and no one will feel or think anything about it.
How does "Vans Original" stand out from the rest of your discography? What makes this song different?
This song stands out because I infused what I wear into a song, which is a very high form of creativity and gives me great pride as an artist.
What was your favorite part about creating "Vans Original," whether it was production, writing, or promo?
I would say the Promotion because I’ve never enjoyed promoting a song like this, and I get to promote clothing from a brand I love. I am an unofficial brand ambassador, without a doubt.
What do you want listeners to feel when hearing "Vans Original"? What do you hope they take away from the track?
I want people to have that feeling that “everything will be alright no matter what.
