Welcome to BuzzMusic Laidback Gemini! Let’s talk about your upbringing. How was it growing up in Montreal? Do you recall some of your early inspirations?

This is a welcome back and I appreciate being one of the selected. In the city of Laval north of Montreal is where I grew up, Vimont to be exact. I was always around family and a couple of friends I went to school with. As far as I can remember my earliest inspirations were Bone Thugs, 50 Cent, Dipset, just being a kid memorizing and singing along with the music. With time, I grew to be inspired by others more recently by Big Krit, Kendrick Lamar, J Cole, and Wiz Khalifa. Mainly for their music but also for the way they move and how serious they take the craft.

What’s the biggest challenge you face as a rapper and how do you tend to overcome the obstacle?

The biggest challenge I face as a rapper right now is getting my music to be heard. There's a lot going on behind the scenes so I stay patient knowing what I do is organic and will bear its fruit. Trusting the process.

How would you describe your songwriting approach in “Papers & Pens” and “The Comeup”? What was the specific theme in both these songs?

Papers & Pens is a compilation of written verses that I wrote over the past years and didn't use any of my songs. So I decided to release them as Acapellas. For The Come Up, I didn't want to do a long project. I wanted to do a short soundtrack of the moment stating my vision and how I plan to ascend. The songwriting came easy and was mostly done freestyling.

Which song have you released so far do you feel best represents who you are as an artist and explain why?

“Mission” would be the one. Simply because the song is about being focused, low key, positive and wise.

Are there any specific arrangements you prefer for your music to have?

I'm still early on developing my sound but I will always be in my right element if the production provides some Boom Bap or G Funk.

What’s next for you in 2020 Laidback Gemini?

The world chico, and everything in it.
