Lindsay Kaye Gives Us A Look At Behind The Scenes Of Latest Single, “Have Fun In Austin”

Welcome to Buzz, Lindsay! We love your wise and mature approach to your recent single, "Have Fun In Austin." What real-life experiences inspired you to write such a cathartic song?

I went through a pretty rough breakup, which was the main inspiration for this song. I co-wrote this with Julie Zorrilla and the process stirred up a mix of emotions but at the same time we had fun telling the story.

What was the most challenging part about creating "Have Fun In Austin"? Was it difficult to work through your emotions and create an honest, personal song?

The most challenging part was putting together all of the different parts (mostly virtually): guitar, piano, vocals, etc. There were times when it was very emotional for me, and I had to stop recording because I was too upset and couldn’t get through the vocals.

Why did you choose to keep the instrumentals so upbeat and bright in "Have Fun In Austin?" Why did you feel this particular sound fit best?

I wanted to have a fun, country feel. It wasn’t my intention to make it a sad song, but ultimately, I think the sadness rang stronger than intended.

How is "Have Fun In Austin" different from your previous tunes? What makes this song stand out among your discography?

This was my first take on a country pop song. This song is different because it tells a true story and is much more personal and literal than the more abstract tracks I’ve written.

What do you hope your audience takes away and experiences after hearing "Have Fun In Austin?" What did you want to provide them with?

I hope they hear a story that makes them feel something, maybe even something they can relate to. I also hope it empowers them to realize they can move on from past hard breakups.
