Lossed Grapples With Painful Thoughts On His New Release, “Dark Nights”

It’s always darkest before dawn.

Emerging from the small town of Grants, New Mexico, Lossed (born Juan DeVargas) is rapidly making a name for himself in the rap world.

Drawing inspiration from icons like Eminem, Logic, and Kendrick Lamar, Lossed has cultivated a sound that is as bold as it is sincere. His journey into music began at 16, sparked by a high school talent show performance that ignited his passion for songwriting and performing. Since then, he’s been on a mission, releasing mixtapes “Problems” and “Thinking Too Much/Feeling Too Little” to positive acclaim.

Growing up in a turbulent household, Lossed turned to music as an outlet, driven by a desire to create a better world for kids who might find solace in lyrics and beats like him. This mission has become the core of his artistic identity, with his introspective and meaningful releases forging connections with listeners that run deeper than the surface.

Lossed’s latest album, “555” (released earlier this month), was his most personal work yet, helping his music resonate once again with younger audiences who are looking for a voice that understands their struggles.

Lossed’s latest release, “Dark Nights,” sees the talented MC do what he does best: look inward. Make no mistake, many thoughts race through Lossed’s head on “Dark Nights,” but his pondering yet resolute vocals leave no doubt that he’ll find light on the other side.

Utilizing honest and unglamorous lyrics like “I get it, get it, you’re motivated / to get out my life” shows that life isn’t always great; it’s often a struggle. It’s okay to doubt; it’s okay to feel low. Everyone has their darkness, but Lossed is here to show you you’re not alone.

Despite his growing success, Lossed remains grounded, connecting with listeners through honest and sincere releases. Whenever you’re ready, tap in and stream Lossed’s latest release, “Dark Nights,” on all major streaming platforms.

Welcome to Buzz, Lossed! We loved “Dark Nights,” we knew we had to ask! How much did your personal experiences help inspire this release? Something you’ve always been clear about is your desire to really speak from as authentic a place as possible, right?

My personal experience is encapsulated in the album, from the heartbreaks to the dark aesthetic of the tracks and everything else in between. My life is put into all my music, and you can become enveloped in my life by listening very closely to my music. Also, yes, my authenticity is very apparent by the way I say what’s on my mind and never sugar-coat my experiences.

What do you think is the most important quality for a musician to have?

Perseverance and imagination are both equally important when it comes to being a musician. Perseverance allows an artist to see their work manifest into its true form from its early mediocre stage to its pinnacle quality. Imagination allows a musician to tell their story in a way that is unique to them and makes their story more interesting.

What was your favorite part of bringing your vision for your new album “555” to life?

My favorite part of making 555 was allowing myself to become isolated in the studio and pour my heart into a song that had both meaningful lyrics and a beautiful beat.

Do you have any advice for any listeners who might be trying to follow in your footsteps?

My advice for future artists is “never give up on yourself”. You are the only person who can make your dream a reality. So make it happen by any means necessary.

What’s next for Lossed, and is there anything you’d like to say to your fans?

What I'd like to say to my fans is, “Thank you for listening, and this is only the beginning of a very exciting story to be told.” I am still going to be putting out music in the coming months, and I’m never going to quit making music. Cheers to 555 for connecting all of us together.
