Congratulations on your new EP, "Wanderlust: The Dawn." What would you like fans to take away from this EP?

I would like fans to enjoy a piece of my mind when I’m in love and see how much art can flourish under the embrace of such a powerful love. It’s a completely new avenue I’m dipping into, and it comes from a very vulnerable and real place in my life. I hope fans embrace that authenticity.

What's your favorite single and music video from the EP, and why?

I am incredibly proud of “Technicolor Honeymoon”—both the song and the video. It was the song that convinced me we had to do an EP. I knew immediately it would be the focus track. The video is my favorite we’ve ever done. It’s beautiful and whimsical, and I had the opportunity to work with an incredible director, Steven Gomillion, who truly brought it all to life.

How would you describe yourself as an artist? What inspires you the most when creating music?

I like to think I’m heartfelt, thoughtful, and somewhat ethereal. I think I shine when I write from the heart. I have a lot of feelings—I always have—and there are pros and cons to that. A wonderful pro is that my best work usually comes from writing those feelings down and staying true to myself. I always try to create with that in mind.

Tell us about the process of creating your single "In Your Car?"

I wrote “In Your Car” because I loved how my partner always opened the car door for me. I had thought to myself that I hoped they would still open the door for me even when the honeymoon phase had passed and we were years into the relationship. The track has a lot of underlying worry and hope, but I still wanted it to convey that joyous feeling of new love.

You've collaborated with huge musicians such as The Fat Rat, Tiësto, and Timbaland. How have these collaborations helped challenge or shape you as an artist?

It has been an honor to work with such talented artists, and it’s inspiring to see how everyone works differently and how we can come together with our own unique skill sets to create something wonderful. There’s so much I still don’t know about music, and I’m always eager to learn. I think they’ve helped open my eyes to a broader avenue of creating, and I think those collaborations were integral to my improvement as a writer and performer.

What's next for Maisy Kay?

My EP “Wanderlust: The Dawn” comes out May 13th, and it’s far from the last piece of music I will put out this year. There are many more surprises on the way!
