Mvstermind & Hannah Parrott Deliver a Cinematic Rallying Cry with "U.S. Against The World"

Mvstermind has spent years proving that independence is not a limitation. It is the foundation of everything he creates. That mindset reaches an even bigger audience on "U.S. Against The World," his collaboration with composer Hannah Parrott, which serves as the title track for HBO Max's documentary series U.S. Against the World: Four Years with the Men's National Soccer Team.

Instead of relying on predictable stadium anthems, the song combines cinematic production with deeply personal storytelling. Hannah Parrott crafts an expansive instrumental that feels both emotional and triumphant, giving Mvstermind the space to deliver verses that explore perseverance, sacrifice, family, and the mental pressure that comes with chasing something bigger than yourself.

Although the song was written to accompany the journey of the U.S. Men's National Team, its message extends far beyond the sport. Mvstermind transforms the documentary's central theme into something universally relatable, speaking directly to anyone fighting to overcome obstacles while staying true to who they are. By the time the chorus arrives, "U.S. Against The World" feels less like a soundtrack and more like a personal mantra.

The accompanying music video keeps that focus intact. Rather than leaning heavily on soccer highlights, it places Mvstermind's performance at the center, allowing the emotion behind the lyrics to carry the visual. Clean cinematography and polished editing elevate the presentation while maintaining the authenticity that has defined his career.

Mvstermind also contributed several additional songs to the HBO Max series, including "Strikers Shuffle," "Brother Nem," "Built Different," and "Away." Together, those records showcase his range as both a rapper and producer while reinforcing the importance of independent artists in today's music landscape. How did the opportunity to create the title track for HBO Max's U.S. Against the World first come together, and what did that moment mean for you

Crazy enough, it was within my network, my homies. There's a production company in Saint Louis titled "Outpost." I've done frequent work with them, from music videos to commercial work. They are the show's creative director and editors, and they had a vision to where they wanted Rap music interweaving throughout this documentary, and they placed the assignment in my hands.  The more i dove into this project, the magnitude began to become more apparent, and to state from the jump, I thought it was an amazing opportunity; I didn’t know it would catapult into what exactly it did. The song even won “Single of the Year” in my hometown Saint Louis yearly awards. 

The song balances personal reflection with the energy of a sports anthem. How did you approach writing something that could connect with both soccer fans and your existing audience?

In anything I do, I have a personal vow to stay true to myself, and it actually helps that on this project, they requested MVSTERMIND, not a watered-down version of myself that at times, respectfully that the sync licensing world can request. I wanted it to feel real, keep it raw and gritty. I used soccer terms, synonymous with my very own movements. "We going forward, we going for it, jumping off the block, baby I was born for it". at the end of the day, I just wanted to create a track that was focused on energy and using universal terms that show how we all feel when we are striving towards a goal, amidst pressure, doubt, and real-deal feelings. 

Hannah, your production feels cinematic without losing its emotional weight. What was your vision for building the sonic landscape behind the record?

“Thank you so much! I wanted the track to have grit hand in hand with hope. I really liked that push and pull between the team’s hard work and big aspirations. I used a lot of breaths as percussion as well as a solid 808 to convey the grind and then a big, driving percussion section for momentum. The orchestra slowly starts rising throughout the song until it just completely breaks loose at the end with soaring strings and anthemic brass lines as we think about the incredible potential of the team. And then throughout the song you have interjections from an incredible gospel choir out here in LA that lend such a unique vitality to the sound. It was such a blast to put this all together to capture the team’s energy and heart!”

You've contributed multiple songs to the documentary. How did each track serve a different purpose in telling the story of the U.S. Men's National Team?

AWAY - This track was legit made for Malik Tillman’s comeback; he didn't make the cut, and it hit him hard, so after working his ass of, he made the cut the following call-up, and so i wanted to embody the feeling of what it feels like to put in that much work and being told....NOPE...... Sorry... wasn't good enough..... and then going on a whole mission that allows you to show up on a whole different level that you may have not even known existed if it wasn’t for..... a No... embracing the fire that comes from those moments. 

Strikers Shuffle - this has that stadium rally shuffle feel, and it's really just a Warriors battle chant of not giving up. High energy. ima fight for mine. Brother Nem - one of my personal faves, placed in a scene where the US men's was really starting to build synergy amongst each other, a ride-or-die brotherhood, based on the wins and losses. "Picked my face off ground, Watched me stand up better" "Who nothing other than, me and my brother nem", it's a fun song fr fr. 

Built Different - This is a track where we talking shit lol, but in an understood notion, of that, hey we just built different, again through the wins, the losses, real life moments, and beyond. This gives a very '95 boom-bap backpack. Inspired by the music I grew up on. Gang Starr, Mob Deep. 

As an independent artist who's built everything from the ground up, what does landing a project of this scale represent for your journey moving forward?

I mean, simply stated... I feel like a player..... in the World Cup, you got your global stars, it's set in stone, you know their names.... and then you also got your hometown hitter...who worked their way from local to global off pure grit... fighting and representing pure skill with the best of them. Anything is possible when you stay true to yourself and deliver. These life-changing moments have already opened up a plethora of doors... we plan on going all the way with it.  The new EP "I heard they Doubted," which just came out this week, it's gone tell the story.
